Wonder What You Were

Wonder What You Were :: preloved textiles.reimagined
:: accessories for you + your home
:: one-of-a-kind + small batch
::

Coming to life in 2014, Wonder What You Were is a range of handcrafted accessories for you and your home. Preloved textiles are deconstructed and transformed into small batch and one-of-a-kind designs that bring a unique style to those who enjoy surrounding themselves with earth friendly treasures. Every piece is designed and handcrafted by me, Cindy Choua, in my home based studio in South Austral

ia. Inspired by found fabrics that are full of colour, pattern and history my creations are designed in the moment, working with an overall pattern but piecing and embellishing fabrics on the fly! Anything is open to repurposing, including elements from all manner of preloved items such as clothing, jewellery, belts, bags, shoes and linens.

Committing to living lightly on this earth is a challenge, there is much work to be done in a myriad of areas, particularly around the reduction of waste so I'm happy to offer this little range of preloved textile wares, it is my attempt at the 'war on waste'. If you have any questions about the textiles and resources I use please feel free to send me a message. I do believe that if you step outside the box, you will see beauty ready to be transformed in even the most unsuspecting item.

Textiles can rest on my shelves for many moons before making their way into a design. Waiting for just the right combination of pattern, colour, texture and inspiration. Like the purple embellishment on this clutch, it was removed from a favourite shirt that had its last moment in the sun quite a while ago. Then along came a recent gift of upholstery samples from a friend and ta-da, inspiration arrives!

The high is real when fabric textures, patterns and colours come together! My stash of suitable clutch making textiles is running low which pushed me to try this combo even though I had doubts. But I love it.🧡
The orange embroidery that has been patchworked to create a larger piece to work with was cut from a very worn out vest, so it has some some rustic charm to it. The vintage small floral soft velvet mixes in a bit of romance and offset with the rockin’ leather. She had to be big to show off each textile in the best proportions.

Hey Little Momo Pouch.🥟
The perfect size for bits and bobs wrangling. I keep one for coins, one for headphones, plus one for little first aid needs. Can you tell I like an organised handbag!👜😆

I never tire of making these one-of-a-kind clutches. Even though my stash of suitable repurposed fabrics is getting low I often find that can be helpful in pushing my creativity. Recently, I’ve started playing with adding texture and body to fabrics. Topstitching multiple folds, patchworking quite small pieces, or rouching lighter fabrics over top of thicker ones.
This batch of beauties can be found at my Marion stockist .
