This wreath is something I made a year ago, to farewell a dear friend 🪽
It was set out to sea, at her favourite spot, floating across the water as we said goodbye…a quiet, symbolic moment that I’ll never forget.
She should still be here, raising her little man, just like me, living the life she deserved. Losing her is something that will stay with me forever ♾️ I carry her strength inside me.
Creating this piece was incredibly meaningful. Every feather, every detail, carried love, grief, and the weight of that moment. It’s one of the most special things I’ve ever made. I just hadn’t found the right time and didn’t know how to share it… but I decided it will be here and now.
Everything in it was natural,materials gathered and chosen with care, and there was something comforting in that. That it could return gently to the ocean, just as it was meant to.
A while ago, my father-in-law gave me a newspaper article about sustainability in Australia. It spoke about how much of our systems are still built on short-term thinking,
convenience over care, growth over longevity…and how much of what we consume still ends up as waste, despite our best intentions.
It feels just as relevant now as it did then, maybe even more so.
And in a different way, that idea of value and care is what this wreath came to represent for me too.
Taking time. Choosing meaning. Honouring something properly.
Losing someone you love changes your perspective completely. It brings everything back to what’s real…how lucky we are just to be here. Every single day is a blessing.
I’ve taken a little time away from Featherdale recently, and I’m slowly finding my way back.
Featherdale has always been about creating with intention and finding meaning in the small things. That feels even more important to me now.
