Hello friends,
"In a culture that worships busyness and productivity, in a world driven by status and accumulation, rest is a revolutionary act." - Ashley Neese
I've been reflecting on this powerful quote. For years, I lived in urgency mode, my nervous system constantly on high alert. Anxiety and restlessness became my norm, I used to think rest meant just taking a nap, but even that felt like a luxury I couldn't afford. There was always too much to do, and guilt often kept me from giving my body the rest it desperately needed.
I was always either fully on or completely off, with no in-between. I see this in many of us—constantly pushing ourselves, not knowing how to rest in a way that truly nourishes and restores. For many, rest looks like numbing ourselves with endless scrolling, checking out, avoiding responsibilities, or suppressing emotions. I know this because it was my reality too. I stayed busy to avoid, suppressed my feelings, numbed myself by scrolling through my phone to feel connected, and checked out by disassociating.
But we can change this. We can embrace rest as an act of self-care and self-love. Let's challenge ourselves to find true rest—whether it's a peaceful walk in nature, meditative breathing, or simply allowing ourselves to be still without guilt. Let's support each other in breaking free from the cycle of busyness and discover the power of rest.
Together, we can create a balance and find the nourishment our minds and bodies need. Let's uplift each other and make rest a priority.
