🌺
These favourite old jeans started out full length with turned up cuffs but because of their length I seemed to only wear them in cooler weather. The cuff hem made me feel like Calamity Jane and that was definitely not the look I was going for.

I decided to restyle them in the hope of more wear by removing the cuff, cutting them 7/8 length, and adding pieces of floral fabric cut outs from another clothing item I was dissatisfied with. Adding a few very simple embroidery stitches have transformed them into my very own designed Bobo jeans.

I now have a ā€œnewā€ pair of jeans that I’ll wear all year round all for $0 expense, just a few hours of hand stitching - now that’s refashion at its best.

All I need now is a cheesecloth top with more embroidery and I’ll be transformed back many a year 🌺

When this fabric caught my eye, it reminded me of one of the loveliest locations in the world - Cornwall.

I’ve been fortunate to visit Cornwall twice and fell in love with the beachside villages along with the huge seagulls and their distinctive call and of course the Cornish Pasty. Places I’ve visited include Looe, Plymouth and Saltash and one I’m yet to experience is the seaside village of Clovelly. This privately owned harbour village set into the hills looks so beautiful with its cobbled streets leading to the waters edge and walled harbour. I love that there’s no cars permitted in their tiny streets although this must prove challenging at times. I feel sure the residents regard this as a minor issue when living in this picturesque village.

As I was sewing this snappy pouch in the seagull fabric, my thoughts were of Cornwall and the many insta accounts I follow -

One day I hope to return to this beautiful English county.

This commission was for an elegant dress in a lemon shade for bub to wear to a wedding and came with a few photos of what Mum was envisaging.

I used a pattern for sizing (6-12month) as well as the large collar, but added the full width double pleats, the anglaise trims across the bodice and hem, and the dress is now fully lined. The original pattern had bias around the armholes but this didn’t sit nicely under the arm with it being lined so I pulled that out and stitched the lining to the outer fabric with a hidden seam. Sits so much nicer and will be much more comfortable for bub. The original pattern had a front opening but I changed that to the back as per Mum’s suggestion.

How very fortunate that everything I purchased matched perfectly in colour - now I’m just waiting on snaps for the back opening. The main fabric is a lemon seersucker with a lawn lining.

I hope mum likes the completed dress and I know her beautiful baby will look ever so darling in her new dress.

Have I told you I love ā¤ļø what I do?
It’s so rewarding when you can achieve your perfect version of what your customer was hoping for.

🄰 Now I can breathe!
With no pattern, this one is requiring every skill and all my sewing knowledge around sewing pleats over a back seam that has an open flap whilst adding lining attached at the back seam and gathers and an anglaise trim!
As my card says ā€œJust because it’s hard doesn’t mean it’s impossibleā€.

My lovely customer sent me a few photos of dresses she liked for her sweet baby to attend a wedding. The skill required between the dresses varied from ā€œeasy peasy - I have that patternā€ to ā€œummm that’s a challenge - I have no patternā€.
You know which one I chose don’t you! Of course, the challenge!!

You can imagine my joy when I sourced thread, lining and anglaise to perfectly match the outer fabric! ā¤ļø

I started this embroidery quite a while ago and decided it had sat long enough as a WIP. It contains fabric and processes I love - Liberty fabrics, quality linen, embroideries and the end result will be a pretty zip pouch.

Last night found me finishing the hare embroidery with a flower so now it’s closer to being sewn together. As you can see, I changed the design of the flower embroidery - because I could!

The kit is the Charlotte Bag by Bella Fabrics. I look forward to sewing this sweet zip pouch.

Oops - Last photo shows something else I enjoyed last night. šŸ„‚

My latest swap is again hosted by .claxton - the theme is ā€œHands Around the Worldā€.

I’ve only completed two swap pieces so far with a couple more to go. Some of my swap partners preferred to have theirs on a square of fabric although many swappers are placing their creations on banner shapes to hang.

Now…. Putting my thinking cap on for inspiration of the next squares and banners I am yet to create.

These two squares were made by quilting lots of small pieces of Liberty fabrics together, cutting out a hand shape before appliquing to the script background. Embroidery stitches around the border of the hand and a quirky flower or two adds the finishing touch. I am always tempted to add more detail so we shall see if these will be the final pieces.

I hope my swappers enjoy having my squares in their future projects.

Said the mouse to the rabbit..
ā€œit’s mice to be important but important to be miceā€.

We’ve been testing a free pattern and tutorial for our ladies craft morning. My friend created the cute bunny in yellow tones and I did the mouse in pink.

This is a pin cushion that’s holds a spool of thread and has a wee tab at the back to secure scissors.

A cute idea for your work station.

Although there wasn’t much left over fabric, I managed to cut and sew a peasant top for my lovely customer’s niece. To keep a good length, I didn’t turn the hem up as normal but added a bias strip to face the bottom edge (just like a lot of designer clothes).

Both girls will be wearing patriotic poppies to their Anzac dawn service in remembrance of the fallen heroes in past wars. They will look adorable!

When deciding the colour for the nappy cover, I tossed between red and purple before deciding on the purple as it matched perfectly.

This information from the net confirmed our choice….
ā€œPurple is a colour used to represent creativity, extravagance, dignity, grandeur, independence, pride, peace, mystery, and magic.ā€ Everything this fabric portrays!!

Thank you Katelyn for the freedom to design something special just for you ā¤ļø
