My work is linocut & woodcut. This is my inspiration for my unique stationery & textile designs. My printmaking work is very textual. I love the expressive nature of the cut areas of the wood and lino. I also adore patterning & repetition of form. My prints are individually hand printed onto quality printmaking paper. Each print in the edition is signed & numbered. The greeting cards feature origi

nal designs & images from my prints. The Heart series of cards is printed on warm white 100% recycled cardstock. I have a love of repeat patterning & am beginning to explore this in some new work featuring richly coloured original designs applied to stationery & textile items.

I posted this yesterday on Instagram, but if you aren't on Instagram you may not have seen it! . . I am having a few issues with technology & needed to delete the Facebook App off my phone . . which I then discovered meant I could not share my Instagram photos over onto to this platform. Ah technology! - good when it works!!

Anyway, I am here at The Sidespace Gallery in Salamanca Arts Centre today and last day tomorrow. And then it's back into the studio to start on new work! - which I am actually pretty excited to get started on, including two specific bodies of work & a longer term project that I will keep ticking along in the background over the next couple of years.

This work is an Artist's Proof of a work that originally was finished with hand colouring. This is my only existing AP, so I've previously been guarding it safely in my print drawers. But on bringing it out to see fresh air & daylight I decided I would allow it to have the opportunity to leave my safe shores to find a new home & new caretaker. If you love me set me free?

Winter Branches

When I was printing these I laid them to dry on my trestle table & played with putting a row upside down. The effect creating a kind of reflection & a beautiful symmetry around the horizontal. I decided to be a tad rebellious to conformity & carry this thru to the exhibition.

THIS WEEKEND in the SIDESPACE GALLERY is 'Linoleum', a collection of linocut relief print works by SAC Resident Artist Bec Murdoch.

Bec’s work has a decorative aesthetic, exploring a flat plane graphic approach within the linocut print methodology. Trees and botanic forms feature strongly in her work.

Someone asked me yesterday about Kozo paper. The paper I use is from the Awagami Factory in Japan as featured in this video. If I understand correctly, Kozo is made from layers of bark from the renewable branches of the kozo bush, or paper mulberry tree. The traditional art of papermaking is quite a skill, and this video is mesmerizing.

Awagami's Satomi-san demonstrates her papermaking skills at the mill. Both Satomi-san and her mother are expert papermakers and important members of the Awag...
