One of my favourite moments from the Mackay Region Chamber of Commerce Best in Business Awards happened before we even walked through the door!
In the lead-up, I saw posts from Adrienne at Get it sorted Mackay and Michelle from One Hungry Mumma talking about the outfits they were wearing.
Adrienne's beautiful dress was bought from an op shop by her grandmother, nearly 18 years ago for Adrienne's Year 12 graduation and the vintage Oroton handbag she carried was gifted to her by her mother in law. It originall belonged to Andrienne's husbands grandmother. What truly special memories Adrienne bought to the event with her, an event where she was nominated for not one but two awards! ๐
Michelle was wearing a dress she'd owned for years teamed with shoes and jewellry that have made appearances before and she carried her mum's vintage glow mesh handbag in memory of her mum and the support she gave Michelle when she first launched her business. How fitting to bring that special item/memory to an event where Michelle was recognised with four award nominations (there's only seven categories!!) I know her mum would be so proud of her! ๐ฅฐ
I was wearing my $2 Vinnies dress that I've been wearing since 2019, so naturally, I had to get a photo with these amazing women! ๐
Because behind every outfit is a story.
A grandmother who helped when money was tight.
A special item passed down through generations.
A favourite dress that's been worn and loved for years.
A sentimental item where the memories outweigh the function.
A $2 op-shop find that's still going strong.
I often talk about pre-loved fashion in terms of sustainability, waste reduction or saving money, which are all true and important, but sometimes it's simply about appreciating what we already have...
Because clothing doesn't lose its value after one wear.
And some of the best outfits come with the most beautiful stories... ๐
