Clothes for a Cure

Clothes for a Cure Donate your near new or new clothes, shoes & accessories, to be sold via our event or FB page auction to raise $ for the National Breast Cancer Foundation!

Where this all began? It was the 16th January 2015 and my gorgeous 9 year old daughter, Alyssa, was cleaning her room, when she came to me and asked for some white stickers, I asked what they were for and she told me it was to put them on her shoe, … trusting that they wouldn't end up on the walls, I gave her a sheet of labels that would suit her purpose. She headed back to her room and continued

sorting things, which I later find out went into bags! I thought nothing more of it. Then she asked to use me computer and as I was making lunch she started tapping away, and I came back to find her creating a handful of posters that said “HELP SAVE PEOPLE WITH CANCER!”… that was when I asked her, “what are you up too?”. To that she replied, “I’m going to set up a table out the front of our house and sell all of the clothes, shoes and toys that I no longer want, and give all the money to people with Cancer”. And in that moment I was (again) incredible proud to be Alyssa’s mum! Mind you, this is off the bat of her cutting her long hair and donating to be made into a wig only a few months ago!! So as her entrepreneurial mum, I thought a little bigger and suggested she could invite her friends to donate their clothes and I would contact my friends and the community to see if they would like to donate ... I have also decided to contact few fashion designers and outlets to see if they would like to be involved and donate an item (or 3) for us to auction via the Clothes for a Cure page. So, within the space of a few hours, we had an event name, logo and our chosen charity (the National Breast Cancer Foundation). The Concept
For people to donate the clothes, shoes and toys that are in great condition, but they no longer want that get sold to raise much needed funds for Breast Cancer Research… In the hope a cure can be found.

WHO'S UP FOR THE CHALLENGE?!

Heya! We’re calling 'TIME-OUT' on ALCOHOL this February to challenge ourselves and to support disadvantaged young people in Australia. It’s the perfect excuse to kick-start the year with a little good health and a lot of good will.

From overcoming mental health issues and the impact of abuse and neglect, to finding safe housing and tackling drug and alcohol problems, febfast funds youth workers to help young people access the resources and support they require to lead healthy and fulfilling lives.

Your support will help us to reduce the severity and frequency of alcohol, drug and mental health problems, anti-social and self-harming behaviour in young Australians. Years of misery and harm can be avoided when mental health and drug problems are resolved early.

I recently found myself working in an environment that was not dissimilar to the abusive relationship I left some 7 years ago, and boy was I disappointed to find someone, who gave herself the title of CEO, behaving in such a manner!

She, that's right she, was horrible to everyone in the organisation particularly when they were not in the room. The name calling, abusive language and the aggressive tone she'd use was both offensive and an abuse of her 'power'… and no, she didn't care whose lives she was turning upside down.

Staff would arrive at work never knowing if they'd be 'in trouble' that day, which meant they were constantly working on eggshells and never able to be the best version of themselves. Then the cycle begins.

The pattern I saw was the same as what I experienced in my DV relationship… first the romance of the job (new possibilities) and the promises, then the 'you're the best' in an attempt to alienate you from the team, then slowly but surely the undermining you with the team, attempts to crack your confidence, then the controlling and abusive behaviour starts! All of this for what?

All of this was to keep her feeling important, needed and more significant than everyone else within the organisation.

When you see how many people have worked (and left) a company and when the work culture is blamed on someone else, even after they have left, but things haven't changed, you start to realise the problem person is still amongst you and that the fish rots from the head down.

Once I had worked out where the problem was and established there would be no changing the environment, and with nothing to go to, I decided to remove myself and work out 'what next' once I had had time to process the unpleasant experience.

We all deserve, where at work or in life, to have high standards of how we treat people and how people treat us. Be kind, respect each other, coach and mentor people and have an empathetic nature and you'll get the best from yourself and the people around you.

So through all of that, it brings me back here… to a place where I can create and contribute, a place where other women can find a positive voice and encouragement to embrace their as I will be!!

Love yourself and remember you are worthy of an amazing life and an abundance of happiness!
