Dolly’s story is one no parent ever wants to imagine living through. As a mum to two pre-teens, it’s heartbreaking to see our children facing these challenges younger and younger. With apps like Kids Messenger, social media, and a world where parenting can easily become less hands on, our kids are navigating cyber bullying, social exclusion, and even physical violence far too early.
Our little people carry so much. We do our best to give them the tools to be strong, resilient, and capable of handling what others throw at them but sometimes we forget just how heavy their world can feel. Children are constantly surrounded by authority, discipline, peer pressure, and emotional challenges. What may seem small to us can feel enormous to them.
Kids can be cruel, and while we often dismiss it as “just kids being kids,” the pain they feel is real. It hurts their hearts, impacts their confidence, and shapes how they see themselves.
Today is a reminder to have those conversations. Check in with your children. Make sure they know they are deeply loved, supported, and always have a safe place to turn. Remind them that no matter how hard today feels, tomorrow can bring hope and change.
Dolly Everett no longer has that chance.
Her family, friends, and community continue to work tirelessly to raise awareness, provide support, and share resources so that we can better protect our children and keep them here with us.
