"I'm so lucky you could do this." —
The thing about simple dresses? Every. Single. Seam. Has to be perfect.
Cassie's KYHA gown came to us from Still White. She was in love with it, and hopeful that we could work some magic to make it somehow fit. It was only 2 sizes too small....
Using fabric we harvested from her train, we added gussets to the sides of the bodice, each skirt panel, and the wrap piece, each precisely 23cm from the waist to the tip, to keep that seam perfection. The golden rule of gussets: keep them symmetrical and they look like they were always meant to be there.
We reworked the sleeve to sit off-shoulder, the way Cassie always imagined, letting the strap seam back out to where it was before the original owner's alterations. A little darting between the back lateral line and the underarm seam, some sculpting on the right lateral back seam, and everything sat exactly right.
Resewed the hanging straps, the wrap, and the boning. Shortened the veil. A good steam. Done.
The wrap piece? Not quite enough fabric to redo it as one continuous panel, so we gusseted it neatly under her arm instead. A snap keeps everything aligned with the buttons and zip, and a crochet hook is ready for her helpers to work the buttons on the day.
And then there was Ruby. Cassie's six fittings took us from February through to May, which happened to be the exact window we were deciding on, picking up, bringing home, and fumbling our way through early life with our own cavoodle. Cassie, who has cavoodles of her own, had a tip for every single thing we panicked about at every single appointment. We owe her for more than just the patience of six fittings.
Cassie, we hope your day is everything.
