I created the Crossbones Wallet because I felt like there weren’t enough high quality accessories for people with darker, alternative style.

Most of the bags and accessories I came across felt either cheaply made, mass produced, or aimed at a much younger audience.

As someone whose wardrobe is almost entirely black, I wanted to design something compact, practical and refined, while still feeling unique and unmistakably dark.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learnt after almost 6 years of designing and manufacturing bags is this. Always make a paper model.

What looks perfect on a screen can be completely different in real life.

I recently resized one of my designs so it could fit more and sent it off for sampling.

Let’s just say it came back overly big and clunky! Not quite the sleek and slimline bag I had envisaged.

Lessons like this are part and parcel of the process. But when a sheet of paper can save you hundreds in sampling… it’s a habit worth having.

So I want to start sharing a little more about how I run the brand and what goes into this business every day but it’s fair to say I’m definitely better behind the camera! I often use the word ‘we’ when I talk about Marrowbone because I feel the brand has its own persona and we are a team.

However apart from the support of my family, partner and friends Marrowbone is solely owned and operated by me! I’m the designer, product developer, ecommerce manager, sales assistant, marketing coordinator, production assistant and order packer.

Despite the challenges of managing every aspect of the business I absolutely love it!

Getting beautiful feedback from my customers whether it be via messages or reviews makes all the hard work 100% worth it! Can any other small business owners relate?
