If you live in Sydney, chances are you have heard of and his reputation for making some mouthwatering chirashi dons and sushi sets (and if you haven't ordered from Van before, this is your sign to!) π£
Pathway in Medicine - My interest in health started when I took up biology in high school. I also have an older sister who was a doctor, so I had some insight into what day-to-day work was like. I wasnβt fully convinced of it as a career though, as it seemed like a rough life. I did an undergrad in pharmacy because I thought that was also very interesting and rewarding. Towards the end of pharmacy school though, I knew that my interests lay strongly in the art of diagnosis and the provision of treatment plans and so I applied for med school and here we are!
Interests in Medicine: I want to do emergency medicine. Having the first crack at the diagnosis of an undifferentiated patient is quite thrilling, and working in the chaos of ED, alongside colleagues, is so much fun. Every patient is so different and every part of the day is unique. I also think I have interests in every aspect of medicine, so being a generalist rather than ultra sub specialist is more attractive to me.
Passion/side hustles: Travel and food are probably the biggest passions, particularly solo travel, roughing it in hostels whilst meeting other world travellers, and funnily enough, also solo dining. I find that solo dining allows me to fully focus on the food and appreciate all the elements without distraction.
On the side, I run a sushi catering business, where I use the best available fish for the day from my Sydney Fish Market supplier. I used to run at home fine dining services, but since starting work as a doctor, I have transitioned to making takeaway boxes most Sundays for pick up from Fairfield, Sydney.
