☀️ Yes, it seems quite dramatic but as infants skin is so sensitive, they are very susceptible to sun damage.

For the first six months, it is better to shield them from the sun rather than use sunscreen. This includes making shade your best friend by keeping to the shady side of the street on walks and using the sun shield in your stroller.

✋🏻Once your baby reaches 6 months, it is time to introduce sunscreens. Choose a broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen that offers a minimum sun protection factor (SPF) of 15. Look at the active ingredients; zinc oxide and titanium dioxide are good choices because these physical filters don’t rely on the absorption of chemicals and are less apt to cause a skin reaction.

You may want to test the sunscreen on the inside of your baby’s wrist. If the child has a little irritation, try another sunscreen. Continue to cover your baby with a hat and protective clothing. 👒

Contrary to popular belief, once the sun goes behind the clouds, it is still passing UVA and UVB rays through to your skin. ☁️

🏂🏼Think about if you have ever gone skiing or snowboarding on an overcast day and you get home with rosy cheeks from sunburn. UVA ray exposure penetrates deep into the skin. These rays are a product not just of direct sun but of all-natural light, capable of reaching the skin through glass, clouds and smog.

⌚For those that have smartwatches, they now have a function embedded that shows you the UV rating. If the UV rating is over 10, it is best to stay out of the sun rays which can occur on an overcast day.
