What's up Hillbilly runners it’s midweek getting this one out, so not quite as bad as last week but I’ve still got some room to improve. Plenty of improvement happening with he solid training you legends are getting through at the moment. Someone that we know trains the house down is our weekly distance winner, Margie Hadley.
Margie racked up the miles this week with a total distance of 144.7 km. We’ve seen some bigger weeks than this from Margie over the years, but when you think about ti 144km+ is a lot of running in a week. How many Parkruns does that equate to?
Coming in hot in second place, we've got Jessica Willis with 137.5 km under her belt. Jess continues to put the weeks together. I did look at one of Jess’s sessions this week and thought it was pretty insane.
Rounding out the top three, we've got Chris Lewinskii with 133.3 km, nice work Chris.
The elevation beasts just keep getting it done, whether they’re racing or banking the quality training.
First spot on the elevation leader board this week goes to none other than Reesha Lewis with a whopping 5,067m of elevation. Great job, Reesha! You're setting the bar high for the rest of the crew and it looks like you and Kelly Conroy are taking it in turns each week at the top of the leader board so far this year.
In second place, we have Shane Johnstone, who hit 3,429m of elevation. Good to see you back on the elevation podium Shane.
And last but not least, Vince Villarosa rounds out the top three with 3,396m of elevation.
To go with topping the elevation leader board, Reesha Lewis also claimed the weekly Golden Goat title. Reesha’s 5,067m of elevation was climbed in 109.5km giving her an elevation percentage of 4.63%!
That's all for this week, Hillbillies! Keep pounding the pavement and reaching for those summits. I just wanted to give one last shoutout to Owen for the cool pic of his Hillbilly Endurance Running Cap 2.0. Some great colour matching there with the sunset!

Leaderboard 26 December 22 - 1 Jan 2023
Happy New Year everyone! I hope you all got to enjoy the new year festivities in your own way and if you weren’t too hung over on Sunday that you even got your 2023 running off to a good start. Before we get into 2023 we need to recap the last week of 2022 (with a a bonus day from 2023!).
Distance for the last week of the year saw Deb Nicholl grab the last opportunity to win the week. Deb took on her own Ginger Beer challenge which included a lazy 259.9km of running!!! What a great way to wrap up 2022, even if one of your adventures was basically in my backyard at Mt Bally and I didn’t get an invite… Seriously though , well done on a huge week of adventures to close out 2022.
Second was Jodie Cumner with a big total of 188km. Jodie chalked up some serious Ks with Parkruns, a race at the Resolution Run and a cool 23.23km to start 2023.
Third place for distance this week was Peter Sinfield. Peter ran a total of 162.2km.
Elevation this week was a battle of big totals. To even crack the top 3 almost 7,000m of elevation was required! Right at the top of list was the Victorian mountain athlete Kelly Conroy. Kelly had a huge elevation total of 8,025m and has been crushing the hills all year. I can’t wait to see what big plans lay ahead for 2023.
Second place in elevation was Deb Nicholl. With 7,409m of elevation to go with her 259.9km, it was an absolutely huge week for Deb. The real question though is how many Ginger Beers did it take to fuel the week.
Third place on the elevation leaderboard was Tom Cullum. Tom climbed a total of 6,969m to close out 2022.
With all the big distance and monster elevation there was a really tight race for the Golden Goat this week. In the end Keelan Birch took out the title with an elevation percentage of 5.39%. A very efficient climbing week consisting of 3,051m of elevation in 56.6km. Well done Keelan.

That’s a wrap for the 2022 HERC leaderboards. We will wrap up the year with our annual Epic Run of the Year award in the coming weeks.
We’ve got a few new ideas for how we’ll do the leaderboards in 2023. We’ll still have the staples of the distance and elevation, as well as the Golden Goat. We’re still trying to figure out the best way to celebrate the individual running achievements which the Epic Run of the Week was intended for, however as the group has grown we don’t always get to see many of the great efforts, such as PBs, shorter distance achievements and people achieve distance firsts! So we’ll come up with a new way to do this.
Again Happy New Year and I really hope you have got your 2023 off to a great start. I’ve started mine with a new Grateful Miles Running Journal (we stock these at Hillbilly Endurance too!) to set some goals that I think are challenging but realistic for the first 6 months of the year! My main goal though is to just enjoy running and be grateful for the opportunity to be able to get out and run every day.

Leaderboard 19-25 December 2022
The Christmas Week! 🎄Lots of food, drinks and even some running for many in the Hillbilly Endurance Run Crew. No massive totals this week that we see throughout the year and that’s probably good thing at this time of year. There’s a few more important things than running during the festive season. I hope everyone was able to spend some time with people that are important to them. I did see plenty of Christmas Day runs yesterday too!
Topping the distance leaderboard for the second last week of the year was Jessica Willis. The ever consistent trainer and recent podium finisher at the GC50 25km race had 133.8km for the week. Jess didn’t let Christmas get in the way of the Sunday long run yesterday either!
Second place for distance this week was Jodie Cumner. Jodie was seen at many Christmas orientated runs on the Gold Coast this week, taking her weekly tally to 132.6km.
Third in distance was Michael Ho**er. Michael ran 128.7km for the week.
The elevation crown for the week was claimed by Dale Chircop. Dale had a very handy 5,397m of climbing for the week. Looks like there was a number of fun group runs through the week in the heart of Down Under 135 country.
On the second step of the elevation podium this week was Phil Fowler. Phil finished the week with 4,856m and a sweet ‘Merry Vertmas’ Medal!
3,938m was enough elevation for Kelly Conroy to snag third.
The Christmas Golden Goat for 2022 is Deb Nicholl. Deb had 3,871m of elevation in 77.2km to have an elevation percentage of 5.01%

Leaderboard 5-11 December 2022
This week’s leaderboard is quite crazy. It’s the first time we’ve had a tie a the top of a leaderboard and this week it was a tie on both the distance and elevation leaderboards!! The reason is pretty easy to understanding but makes the feat no less impressive (or crazy!).
Kelly Konroy and Tom Cullum both finished in equal top spot on the distance leaderboard this week. They both ran 257.8km for the week. They both did it in one run, and I think it’s a safe bet to say they ran together, for 257.8km. A crazy few days out in the wilderness!
Third for distance this week was Bec B with a total of 159km for the week.
Dejavu time… Topping the weekly elevation leaderboard was Tom Cullum and Kelly Konroy! Their 257.8km run had 11,918m of elevation in it! This adventure looks like it took them from the northern most point of the Grampians to the southern most point in Dunkeld. Then they went back to the middle! I not sure if this was an FKT attempt or Tom planning a sister event to Down Under 135. Either way it is awesome.
Third for elevation this week was John Veugelers. John climbed 4,811m in the week. He also did it in 88km making him this week’s Golden Goat.
Well done everyone in fighting off the temptation to kick straight into Christmas mode and still get out there and run. I’ve certainly slacked off a bit. The full leaderboard is available on our website: https://hillbillyendurance.com.au/pages/hillbilly-endurance-run-crew
A couple of quick mentions, first best of luck to everyone tackling an event at the inaugural Kosciusko Ultra this coming weekend. It should be a beauty and the weather looks fresh! Get that merino out!
Secondly I have to give a shoutout to the 36 runners that came on the fourth annual Four Plates Bad Ass Beer Run over the weekend on the Gold Coast. We had an absolute ball despite a hiccup with one of the breweries. This little run gets bigger and better each year and whilst it’s not a race, the unofficial winner was Daniel Prince.
Finally the Epic run of the week this week has to go to Kelly and Tom. I love a good adventure turned into a run and this one looks like there was a need for some decent planning and then the ability to pull it off and get the run done. Well done to both of you. I’ll send through a 25% off discount code for you to use at hillbillyendurance.com.au
Thanks crew, have a great week whatever you’re doing.
