Leaderboard 26 December 22 - 1 Jan 2023
Happy New Year everyone! I hope you all got to enjoy the new year festivities in your own way and if you weren’t too hung over on Sunday that you even got your 2023 running off to a good start. Before we get into 2023 we need to recap the last week of 2022 (with a a bonus day from 2023!).
Distance for the last week of the year saw Deb Nicholl grab the last opportunity to win the week. Deb took on her own Ginger Beer challenge which included a lazy 259.9km of running!!! What a great way to wrap up 2022, even if one of your adventures was basically in my backyard at Mt Bally and I didn’t get an invite… Seriously though , well done on a huge week of adventures to close out 2022.
Second was Jodie Cumner with a big total of 188km. Jodie chalked up some serious Ks with Parkruns, a race at the Resolution Run and a cool 23.23km to start 2023.
Third place for distance this week was Peter Sinfield. Peter ran a total of 162.2km.
Elevation this week was a battle of big totals. To even crack the top 3 almost 7,000m of elevation was required! Right at the top of list was the Victorian mountain athlete Kelly Conroy. Kelly had a huge elevation total of 8,025m and has been crushing the hills all year. I can’t wait to see what big plans lay ahead for 2023.
Second place in elevation was Deb Nicholl. With 7,409m of elevation to go with her 259.9km, it was an absolutely huge week for Deb. The real question though is how many Ginger Beers did it take to fuel the week.
Third place on the elevation leaderboard was Tom Cullum. Tom climbed a total of 6,969m to close out 2022.
With all the big distance and monster elevation there was a really tight race for the Golden Goat this week. In the end Keelan Birch took out the title with an elevation percentage of 5.39%. A very efficient climbing week consisting of 3,051m of elevation in 56.6km. Well done Keelan.

That’s a wrap for the 2022 HERC leaderboards. We will wrap up the year with our annual Epic Run of the Year award in the coming weeks.
We’ve got a few new ideas for how we’ll do the leaderboards in 2023. We’ll still have the staples of the distance and elevation, as well as the Golden Goat. We’re still trying to figure out the best way to celebrate the individual running achievements which the Epic Run of the Week was intended for, however as the group has grown we don’t always get to see many of the great efforts, such as PBs, shorter distance achievements and people achieve distance firsts! So we’ll come up with a new way to do this.
Again Happy New Year and I really hope you have got your 2023 off to a great start. I’ve started mine with a new Grateful Miles Running Journal (we stock these at Hillbilly Endurance too!) to set some goals that I think are challenging but realistic for the first 6 months of the year! My main goal though is to just enjoy running and be grateful for the opportunity to be able to get out and run every day.
HILLBILLY ENDURANCE RUN CREW - VIRTUAL RUNS & LEADERBOARDS Originally we created this as a way to keep motivated when all the races were postponed or cancelled. The response has been unreal and it's been awesome seeing the group grow. We stated with about 60 people in the group and now over 700....
