I don’t normally share personal fundraisers here, but this one is very close to our family, so I hope you’ll indulge me. 💜

This September, I’m swapping some of my usual time in the sewing room for walking shoes and taking on 78km to raise money for pancreatic cancer research.

My husbands former wife and the mother of his children passed away from pancreatic cancer, and this month our wider family has come together to form a team and raise funds in her memory.

I’ve committed to my 78km — so there will probably be a few walks squeezed in around running Birds on Bikes over the next few weeks!

If anyone in our lovely Birds on Bikes community would like to support our team, either with a donation or simply by sharing our page, it would mean a great deal to all of us.

💜

And to everyone who has been touched by pancreatic cancer, this walk is for you too.

Sponsor my challenge to fund pancreatic cancer research and change lives.

Experienced stretch machinist wanted

We’re looking for an experienced machinist to join us at Birds on Bikes in Annerley, Brisbane.

You’ll need to be confident working with stretch fabrics and comfortable using a flatlocker, along with industrial sewing machines.

Experience sewing activewear, swimwear or similar stretch garments would be ideal.

Casual/flexible hours in our small Brisbane studio.

If this sounds like you — or you know someone who’d be a great fit — please send me a message or share this post.

This is what Australian made looks like.

Hands on the fabric. Skills built over years. Garments being made right here in our Brisbane studio.

It might not look flashy, but this is the part I care about most — keeping clothing manufacturing skills alive, supporting local makers, and knowing exactly how our garments are made.

Skills worth keeping.

Australia used to make so much more of its clothing here.

At Birds on Bikes, we’ve chosen to keep doing it differently - designing and making our cycling apparel here in Brisbane, with real people, real skills and a real understanding of how our garments fit.

And just as importantly, we design for women as they actually are: different shapes, different sizes, different bodies.

Australian-made matters to me because once these skills disappear, they’re incredibly hard to get back.

A little look around the Birds on Bikes studio.👀
This is where your cycling gear comes to life - right here in Brisbane.
It’s not a huge factory. It’s a small team, a lot of fabric, a lot of sewing…and usually me doing about six things at once 😩😂
Thanks for supporting Australian-made. It genuinely keeps places like this going. ❤️

Buying Australian made matters, but it’s only part of the story.

We also need to make sure the skills, training and manufacturing capability still exist here in Australia.

Once we lose experienced machinists, patternmakers, cutters and production people, they won’t be easy to replace.

I’d really love to hear from people in the industry:

What do you think needs to change if we want to rebuild Australian clothing manufacturing?

20/08/2026

Australian clothing manufacturing is quietly disappearing.

This week alone, I’ve seen two very real examples of brands struggling to keep production in Australia.

We talk a lot about buying Australian made — but we also need to make sure there are still skilled people here to make it.

Once those skills are gone, they’ll be incredibly hard to rebuild.

I’d love to hear from other brands, manufacturers and customers — are you seeing this too?

Padded cycling comfort — without the cycling look. 🚲

Not everyone wants to head out for a ride in traditional cycling knicks.

That’s exactly why we created BoB Unders.

They’re padded cycling underwear designed to be worn underneath the clothes you already love — shorts, pants, a skirt, whatever works for you.

With a slimmer women-specific chamois, they give you extra comfort on the saddle without the bulk of traditional padded cycling shorts.

Perfect for:

Rail trails and casual rides
E-bike adventures
Touring and cycling holidays
Café stops and exploring along the way

Because sometimes you want to get off the bike and just look like… you.
