ইউনেস্কো আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে টাঙ্গাইল শাড়ি বুঁনন শিল্পকে 'Intangible Cultural Heritage' হিসেবে স্বীকৃতি দিয়েছে। ইউনেস্কোর ২০০৩ কনভেনশনের ২০তম সভায় নেওয়া এই সিদ্ধান্তের মাধ্যমে এ কনভেনশনের তালিকায় বাংলাদেশ ষষ্ঠবারের মতো অন্তর্ভুক্ত হলো।

নৈপুণ্য ও সূক্ষ্ম কারুকাজের জন্য বিখ্যাত টাঙ্গাইল শাড়ি আমাদের দক্ষ তাঁতীদের দীর্ঘদিনের পরিশ্রমেই আন্তর্জাতিক মর্যাদা পেয়েছে। এই অর্জন আমাদের সবার, সকল তাঁতি শ্রমিক এবং সংশ্লিষ্ট সকলের, এই অর্জন বাংলাদেশের জন্য গৌরবের।
