breakage/damage in denim causes and solutions

"The Invention"
Lycra yarn, also known as spandex or elastane, was invented in 1958 by DuPont chemist Joseph Shivers. Lycra is a synthetic fiber which is elastic in nature. It is also known as spandex or elastane and made from Polyether-polyurea copolymer. 'LYCRA' is the commercial name of the spandex yarn made by The Lycra Company, USA.

"Why Lycra yarn used for!
Lycra yarn is used for its exceptional stretch and recovery properties, allowing garments to conform to the body and maintain their shape. It's a versatile naterial that adds comfort, durability, and wrinkle resistance to various types of clothing, including sportswear, swimwear, and everyday wear. Lycra's ability to stretch up to five times its original length and return to its original shape makes it ideal for clothing that requires flexibility and a comfortable fit. Lycra can stretch up to 5-8 times more of its original length.
"Causes of Lycra Breakage"
A depth study says that the Lycra breakage/Lycra damage on denim apparel can happens from 3 different stages as below.

"The fabric stage"
Poor-quality Lycra yarn usage Improper process of Weaving & Finishing Heat settings and pre-shrink processes (Solutions- Good quality Lycra yarn is must, a perfect weaving process, proper finishing and pre-shrink brocess protect Lycra damage/breakage.)
"Garment manufacturing stage"
Blunt cutting blades/knives
Overstretching the cutting panels/fabrics during sewing
Needle sometimes damages/cut Lycra yarn for sharpness.

"During bartacking"
Incorrect sewing/stitching threat selection
Quick or speedy sewing sometimes cause Lycra damage for over stress on fabric
Storing garment at sunny place where garment gets direct sunlight.
(Solutions- Sharp cutting knives usage and machine handling during cutting, cutting panels handling smoothly, ball point needle usage, correct number of stitching thread usage, stitched garments storing is dry and cool places can prevent denim garment from ycra damage/breakage).

⁃ During drying hot temperature melts Lycra yarn [Solutions- Cold water is required for Spandex/Lycra instead hot water, Lycra protector now a day became a strong solution to protect Lycra damage, during dry process need to use patterns smoothly avoiding overstretching the garment, strong chemicals like bleaching/acid must follow usage limit/instruction, softener usage within a limitation and lower drying temperature also prevent denim garment from Lycra lamage/breakage.]

Why Low-Volume Japanese Denim Brands Are Special!

When we talk about Japanese denim, many think of expensive jeans. But the real story is about small brands making fewer jeans with more heart.
Brands like Pure Blue Japan, Studio D'Artisan, The Flat Head, and Iron Heart don't chase mass production. Some of them make only a few thousand pairs per year. Compare that to big global brands producing millions and you'll see why these jeans feel so different.
The secret isn't just the fabric. It's the machines and the makers.

* Old Toyoda shuttle looms (from the 1950s) weaving slowly, one roll at a time.
The legendary Union Special 43200G hemming machine, famous for its "roping effect" that gives vintage fades.
‣ The Singer 47w70 bar-tack machine, adding strength where jeans take the most stress.

Here's the uncommon part:
Some Japanese mills purposely keep their looms a litle imperfect. Why? Because those irregularities in the fabric create texture and fading patterns you simply cannot mass-produce.
Pure Blue Japan is known for "slubby denim," made by twisting cotton yarn unevenly - something big factories would normally reject as a flaw.
These "imperfections" are what denimheads chase. They make every pair unique.
So yes, Japanese denim is expensive. But when you buy from these low-volume brands, you're investing in craft, history, and individuality not just jeans. That's why I keep writing about Japanese denim. Not hype, just heritage.

ফ্যাশনে পরিণত হওয়ার আগে ডেনিমের গল্পটা ছিল বেশ হৃদয়বিদারক।
পশ্চিম আফ্রিকায় একটি মোটা-টেকসই কাপড় দাসশ্রেণীর মানুষদের মধ্যে বিতরণ করা হত যাতে তারা ক্ষেত-খামার এবং বাড়িতে কাজ করার সময় পরতে পারে।
এই মোটা-টেকসই কাপড়টি ছিল কখনও ডেনিম বা কখনও রুক্ষ সুতি বা লিনেন - যাকে প্রকাশ্যে "নিগ্রো কাপড়" হিসাবে উল্লেখ করা হত।
দাসদেরকে ডেনিম পরতে দেওয়ার উদ্দেশ্য বলা হত কাপড়ের দীর্ঘস্থায়িত্বতা, কিন্তু মূল উদ্দেশ্য ছিল দাসদেরকে আলাদাভাবে চিহ্নিত করা এবং নিয়ন্ত্রণ করা।
এটি শুধুমাত্র কাপড়ের ব্যাপার ছিল না, এটি ছিল জাত বা বর্ণ পরিচয়ের ব্যাপার।
দাসশ্রেণীর মানুষদের নিজের পোশাক বেছে নেওয়ার অনুমতি ছিল না, তাদের ইউনিফর্ম হিসেবে ডেনিম পরতে দেওয়া হত।
দ্যা আইরনি?
ব্লু ইন্ডিগো জিন্স বুননের প্রক্রিয়া, ডাইং করার প্রসেস সবকিছুই পশ্চিম আফ্রিকার ঐতিহ্যের অংশ হয়ে গেছে। ব্লু ডেনিমের রঙের সৌন্দর্য, টেকনোলোজি - অনেক কিছুই দাসদের নিজের আবিষ্কার।
এর কয়েক দশক পরে, ১৮৭৩ সালে, লেভি স্ট্রস এবং জ্যাকব ডেভিস পেটেন্ট করেছেন যা আমরা এখন ব্লু জিন্স নামে জানি।
সময়ের সাথে সাথে ডেনিম কেবল একটা নির্দিষ্ট স্টাইলেই সীমাবদ্ধ থাকেনি, এটি প্রতিনিয়ত বিকশিত হয়েছে।
কাউবয়রা ডেনিম পরতে শুরু করল, কারখানার শ্রমিকরা ডেনিমকে আপন করে নিল।
কবি, শিল্পী, কর্মী, সঙ্গীতজ্ঞ - প্রতিটি ইন্ডাস্ট্রিতে বর্ণবাদ এবং দাসপ্রথার বিরুদ্ধে পরিবর্তনকামী মানুষদের দৈনন্দিন পোশাক হয়ে উঠল ডেনিম।
আজ ডেনিম সর্বত্র।
কিন্তু ডেনিমের প্রতিটি সেলাইয়ের মধ্যে লুকিয়ে আছে এক ভুলে যাওয়া ইতিহাস।
আমরা কেবল স্টাইলের জন্য এটি পছন্দ করি সেটা নয়, বরং আমরা তাদের ঐতিহ্য বহন করি যাদেরকে বর্ণবাদ আর দাসত্বের পোশাক হিসেবে ডেনিমকে পরতে দেওয়া হয়েছিল, যারা কখনও ডেনিমকে নিজের জন্য পছন্দ করে বেছে নিতে পারে নি।
