Whisker Effect in Denim 👖
Ever noticed the faded lines across the upper thigh of jeans?
Those lines are called whiskers. They create the classic worn-in look that makes denim feel authentic and stylish.
Whiskers originally come from natural wear. When someone sits, walks, and moves, the denim folds at the hip and thigh area. Over time the indigo dye fades on these crease points, creating light lines that look like whiskers.
In modern denim production, this effect is created during the dry process before washing. Two common techniques are used:
🔹 Hand Scraping / Hand Sanding
Skilled workers use sandpaper or special tools to manually fade the denim along the whisker lines. This method gives a natural and artistic look.
🔹 Laser Whisker Technology
Laser machines burn precise whisker patterns onto the denim surface. It is faster, more consistent, and environmentally friendly.
At Indigrove, we appreciate these details because great denim is all about craftsmanship, texture, and character.
