Today we celebrate the birthday of Stevie Wonder — one of the rare artists whose music feels less like entertainment and more like human truth translated into sound.

From the first time I saw him in New York — at a private event for a microship for blind people that I somehow managed to sneak into — to the many performances I witnessed over the years, his presence has stayed with me as a kind of light.

What moves me most about Stevie is not only the musical genius of albums like Innervisions or Songs in the Key of Life, but the depth of humanity within them. Joy, political consciousness, spirituality, heartbreak, tenderness — all existing in the same breath. He transformed blindness into an extraordinary way of seeing the world.

His work has profoundly influenced my life, musically and personally. An eternal reminder that true artistry is inseparable from empathy, courage, and soul. ☀️

Today I remember Prince not only as an icon, but as one of the greatest examples of artistic freedom I have ever known.

Of course there was Purple Rain, 1999, Sign o’ the Times, Parade, Dirty Mind, Controversy—the albums that shaped music history. But what moved me just as deeply was the work beyond the expected canon: Emancipation, Crystal Ball, The Truth, the New Power Generation era, the independent releases, the experiments, the courage to keep creating outside the system.

That is where his genius felt even more radical to me.

He taught me that true artistry is not just talent. It is sovereignty. It is refusing to let the world reduce you to what is easiest to sell. It is protecting your vision, following your own frequency, and continuing to create from truth rather than approval.

I saw him live more than 45 times—from Paisley Park to New York, Paris, Vegas, and unforgettable after-hours performances that felt like pure transmission. He never gave the same thing twice. He wasn’t performing at people—he was channeling something through music in real time.

As a huge fan, he deeply influenced my life.As an artist, he influenced how I understand creation itself.

And this day will always be especially emotional for me, because the day Prince died is also my daughter’s birthday. So every year, this date carries both sorrow and grace—an ending and a beginning, forever intertwined.

Today I honor the artist who expanded my world, and the life that transformed it.

Prince was never just a musician. He was freedom, discipline, mystery, elegance, rebellion, and devotion to craft in human form.

And for those of us who listened deeply—not just to the hits, but to the work he made when he answered only to himself—he never really left.

Forever in purple. 💜

What began as small handcrafted crochet sustainable women’s fashion brand in southern Brazil has rippled outward across oceans — finding life in chic, far-flung shores where handcrafted crochet is cherished as art, memory, and touch. In Mykonos light, Mediterranean air, and Caribbean horizons, Leafy learned to speak a truly global language of craft and femininity.

We honor the hands that made this possible — our extraordinary artisans, whose patience and mastery shape every stitch into poetry. We thank our clients who carry Leafy on their skin like a tide, and our retail partners who believed in this vision long before it arrived at the world’s shores.
