WEATHER ALERT: COLD SPELL EXPECTED NEXT WEEK
The Department of Meteorological Services wishes to inform the public of a cold spell expected to affect most parts of the country from Monday, 10th August 2026, to Thursday, 13th August 2026.
The inflow of cold air is expected to result in significantly lower temperatures, particularly over the southern and eastern parts of the country. Maximum temperatures are expected to range between 12°C and 21°C in these areas, while temperatures over the northern parts of the country are expected to range between 22°C and 26°C.
Minimum temperatures are expected to range between -1°C and 7°C countrywide.
The cold conditions are expected to result from a ridge extending from the Atlantic Ocean high-pressure cell, coupling with a westerly trough. This weather system will advect cold, dry air over most parts of the country, resulting in very cold to cold conditions.
An improvement in both maximum and minimum temperatures is expected from 13th August 2026.
In view of the anticipated weather conditions, members of the public are advised to:
Dress warmly, particularly during the early morning and evening hours.
Minimise prolonged exposure to the cold conditions.
Take appropriate precautions to protect vulnerable individuals, particularly young children and older persons.
The Department of Meteorological Services will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary.
