Now that’s what I’m talking about 🐎!
Woman has trained a Kentucky Derby Winner !!! 💪
HISTORY MADE AT THE 2026 KENTUCKY DERBY
For the first time ever, a woman has trained a Kentucky Derby winner.
Cherie DeVaux made history Saturday when her horse, Golden Tempo, surged from the back of the pack to win the 152nd Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs.
Golden Tempo entered the race as a 23-1 long shot, but with jockey Jose Ortiz, the horse rallied from last place early on to take the win by a neck in the final stretch.
DeVaux, 44, has spent years working her way up in the racing world, starting as a stable worker before becoming an assistant trainer and eventually going out on her own in 2018. Her breakthrough moment came on racing’s biggest stage.
Before this victory, dozens of women had trained horses in the Derby—but none had ever won.
After the race, DeVaux reflected on the moment, saying she hopes her win shows that women can succeed at the highest levels of the sport and serve as an example for others.
The win not only marks a personal milestone, but a historic moment for horse racing.
