I’ve long dreamed of having my own library, and so turned a formal dining room (which I knew we would rarely use) into “a room of one’s own”. This room informed the direction of as the decor is “British History Museum”. My beloved books, including my collection of Granta journals, sit on proper Montel library shelves. The library also features treasures from nature, history, my childhood and my travels.

Today I finished setting up the studio space!!!
Woo hoo. I picked up a great retro round table with gold designs and on the same day, from a different seller, a funky matching 🪑. Then on the Sunday I picked up a stunning cane side table from the fabulous . Now I just need a comfy armchair. The teak unit (one of two) originally belonged to my maternal grandparents. When they passed away my paternal grandparents used it. There is a little bar shelf which was kept stocked with crisps and 🥤, and the drawers held playing cards, family photos and the fancy cutlery. When my last nan passed, I had both shipped from the UK to me. The green chrome shelves are from The Department of Natural Resources, which I got years ago at the incredible Glebe Garage Sale in Ottawa. I’ve been playing with the framed pieces and think I’ve got at least four really strong collections to create my first curated gallery wall sets!!!! I picked up a vintage doctor’s table from a retiring physician. It’s in immaculate condition and the green vinyl is stunning. I had been using our leather chaise on the main floor as a staging platform but I didn’t want to ruin it with scratches and marks. When I saw this I knew it would be perfect. It’s even more useful than I imagined, with pull out ledges I can rest my camera on, a step for flat lays, and drawers for lots of props. The natural light from the window is very helpful.

This is a BEFORE shot of the studio space. Having stock all over my house was stopping me from being able to work consistently. Now I’ve got my stock, packaging supplies, shelving, cupboard space and lots of room, to actually set some routines. Searching for a funky work table and chairs.

I’m busy setting up my studio this week. I’ve been trying to work out of my library but then I waste time gathering boxes and items and props from multiple rooms. Luckily we have a really large extra room which will now be set up as the Keys & Bees office. I have so much stock waiting to be processed and listed!!!

One of the reasons that we moved from Ottawa to Maple Bay 7 months ago so that I could garden year round. Our home really is a bit of paradise and there are about 50 different plant species. We have arbutus, palm, maple, cherry, and fir 🌲 (and today we were gifted a baby 🐵 🧩!!). It’s great having a new challenge and being blessed with being stewards!
