Celebrating Our Everyday Heroes in Wood Buffalo

On the evening of April 23rd, the Wood Buffalo community gathered for the 2025 Council’s Excellence Awards, and what a powerful night of connection it was.

​While Fry Daddy Trading Co. is an early-stage venture, our heart is deeply rooted in this region and the people who make it great. It was my absolute honor to attend and nominate my best friend, David Plant, for the Everyday Hero Award. Seeing your dedication recognized by the Municipality was a proud moment for me, brother!

​A special thank you to the Councillors who took the time to celebrate with us and show their support for local leadership:

​We also want to send our regards to the Council members who were busy serving our region elsewhere—your hard work does not go unnoticed.

​It was a joy to share the room with so many inspiring individuals, including fellow nominee Sunil Choudhary, as well as Marissa and Daisy. To every single nominee across all categories: thank you for the light you bring to our community.

​Finally, a huge shoutout to Wild Rose Catering Co.—the food was absolutely phenomenal and truly set the tone for a wonderful evening.

​As an Indigenous business owner from Frog Lake, I am grateful for the opportunity to stand alongside such excellence. We send many blessings to everyone for the remainder of 2026. May we all continue to build each other up!

Ever wondered how an ancient Egyptian scribe might spell "Fry Daddy"? Well, I found out! 😂 It's actually a phonetic language, so you use symbols for sounds rather than just pictures of things. Check this out! (Read right to left, like they did back then!)

👨‍🍳 "FRY" (Top Row, Right to Left):
* F (the Horned Viper/Snake)
* R (the Mouth)
* Y (the Two Reeds, the "ee" or long "I" sound)

👨 (Bottom Row, Right to Left):
* D (the Hand)
* A (the Vulture)
* D (Another Hand!)
* Y (a single Reed for the final "ee" sound)

And the coolest part? On the far left, the scribe added "determinatives"—symbols that aren't pronounced, but tell you what the word is! ⬇️

* A Cooking Pot over a fire (hints at what I do—the "Fry")

* A Seated Man (which means it's the name of a real person, a gentleman!)

So there you have it: a real "Fry Daddy" defined in stone! 🔥📜 And just for fun, they even added a nice touch: "Written in the style of the Scribe Usermaat-neb." Talk about a deep dive!
