🇨🇦 CANADA IS BRINGING VIA RAIL MANUFACTURING HOME
Prime Minister Mark Carney has announced a $4.7 billion investment for 313 new VIA Rail passenger cars, marking the first time in 40 years that VIA passenger cars will be built in Canada.
The new cars will be manufactured and assembled in Thunder Bay, Ontario and La Pocatière, Quebec, with Canadian design and engineering work also taking place in Quebec.
The project is expected to support nearly 700 jobs in Ontario and Quebec and generate more than $1.6 billion in economic benefits. Alstom will also maximize the use of Canadian steel and draw on its network of more than 900 Canadian suppliers.
The new fleet will replace equipment on VIA’s long distance, regional and remote routes, some of which is more than 70 years old.
And there’s a rather significant change here: passenger cars that Canada previously sourced from the United States will now be built here at home.

🇨🇦 CANADA UNVEILS NEW $20 BILL FEATURING KING CHARLES III

The Bank of Canada officially unveiled its new $20 bank note today, featuring King Charles III on the front and the Canadian National Vimy Memorial on the back.
The new polymer bill keeps the familiar green colour but switches to a vertical design and includes a new generation of security features designed to make counterfeiting more difficult.
Canadians will not start finding these in their wallets immediately. The Bank of Canada expects the new $20 notes to enter circulation in early 2027.

🇳🇱 NETHERLANDS MOVES GOLD OUT OF U.S. AND CANADA AMID “GEOPOLITICAL UNREST”

The Netherlands has shifted approximately 86 tonnes of its gold reserves from the United States and Canada to London, citing increasing geopolitical unrest and the need to be better prepared for a serious crisis.

The Dutch central bank says gold held at the Bank of England can be accessed and traded more quickly during an emergency, making London a more strategic location.

The represents a significant reshuffling of Dutch reserves. Before the change, 31.3% of Dutch gold was held in New York and 19.7% in Ottawa. Those holdings have now fallen to 18.5% in each location, while London's share has jumped from 18.1% to 32.1%.

The Netherlands still holds gold in both the United States and Canada, so this isn't a complete withdrawal. But citing geopolitical instability while deliberately reducing its exposure to North America is certainly noteworthy.
