Ever notice little specks, squiggles, or cobweb-like shapes drifting across your vision?

These are called eye floaters. They happen when tiny clumps within the gel (vitreous) inside your eye cast shadows on your retina. Floaters are very common and often become more noticeable as we age.

Most floaters are harmless, but a sudden increase in floaters, flashes of light, or what feels like a curtain or shadow coming over your vision could be a sign of a retinal tear or detachment and should be assessed immediately.

If you’re ever unsure whether what you’re experiencing is normal, don’t wait—give our office a call. Your eye health is always worth checking.

While every eye colour can be healthy, lighter-coloured eyes (like blue, green, or grey) have less melanin, which may make them more sensitive to bright light and UV exposure. Darker eyes contain more melanin, but they still need protection from the sun.

No matter your eye colour, everyone should:
🕶️ Wear UV-protective sunglasses.
☀️ Protect their eyes from prolonged sun exposure.

Whether you’re in a pool, lake, or hot tub, water can expose your contact lenses to bacteria and other microorganisms that increase the risk of serious eye infections.

The safest option? Wear prescription goggles, or remove your contacts before getting in the water. If you accidentally swim with them in, remove and discard your lenses as soon as possible and use a fresh pair.
