As a hobby seamstress/quilter I found myself collecting gorgeous fabrics like it was going out of style, but never finding the right use for them. Sew Original combines my love of unique, modern designer fabrics with my need to be perpetually organizing!

Hi! It’s been a hot minute. Between balancing my day job, an entire library of hobbies, and a Hayu subscription it is just hard to find time to sew these days!

I’ve shared in the past how I am fortunate that Sew Original is not my primary income, which allows me the opportunity to take time away when the creative juices aren’t flowing. This break was a tad longer than expected (lolol) but I’m starting to feel the inspo creeping back in!

Starting slowly by photographing and listing this little jelly pouch I made… last May 🫣

I recently moved my office/studio around and rediscovered all the half done projects I started in another lifetime 🥲
It’s always a bit of an adventure picking up a WIP - trying to remember what piece goes where, what I’ve already cut, what pattern this is even for… 🫠 Luckily, past me did a pretty good job labelling this one before adding it to the doom pile, so it was relatively smooth sailing!
This is a scrappy by .taylor.crafts - the perfect companion for hand sewing and other small hobbies. Stay tuned for a shop update coming very soon!

It was such a pleasure to participate in Faux Leather February with and make this classic quilted bag 🥰

This Shimmer Faux Leather in Lunar has the prettiest blue-purple colour shift and was a dream to sew! Bag makers can attest that not all faux leather is created equal, and sparkly/shimmery finishes can be particularly sticky to sew. This is not the case with the Shimmer Faux Leather - it glides through my machine like butter 🧈 👌

I’ve tried a handful of Sallie Tomato faux leathers now and they never disappoint! Plus their patterns are beautiful and very easy to follow (this is Carrie, btw).

We are just shy of a week away from my next shop update! I’ve been slacking on posting but I still have a few things up my sleeve to share!

I travel pretty often for my day job and carry 3 different pouches to hold my makeup, brushes, and small toiletries (think cotton swabs, cotton rounds, etc). I’ve been on the hunt for a while for a pattern that would meet all these needs but couldn’t find one.

So after MANY months, I decided to just dive in and figure it out. And I DID! I designed and made this bag straight from my brain and am still a little shocked that it came out as envisioned (and with barely any use of the seam ripper).

I will be test driving it for the next few trips, mostly to see if the size is right. Stay tuned for more details (and photos 😍)

Look. I know I’m ✨supposed✨ to act like a big brand and have fancy product launches that feature a cohesive product line. I had good intentions, I swear.

But I’m not a big brand. I’m one person who just sews when inspiration strikes and here we are. So this shop update will include a happy little collection of 90s inspired baguette bags. It will also include a handful of scrappy project bags. There may even be a Christmas ornament or two, don’t judge me.

It won’t be cohesive, but it will be fun regardless. See you there (Feb 21st at 7PM EST).

These mini sewing kits were popular at markets last year and I can see why! I always travel with cross stitch (more on that later 😉) and there’s nothing worse than losing your only needle.

These kits fit in the palm of your hand, but don’t let their small size fool you. They unfold to include a slip pocket, a removable pin cushion (it’s SO cute), elastic loops to hold thread or notions, and a felt needle holder.

I only have 3 of these left and they’ll be available as part of the Feb shop update!
