The jungle jacket (3rd edition)

The “jungle jacket” is a lightweight cotton field jacket worn by American soldiers, introduced in 1963, which replaced heavy wool OG-107 Shirts (too hot for humid climate combat).

There are four variations of this jacket and all four have distinct slanted pockets. You can tell the different variations from each other based off button exposure, epaulet presence, waist ties, and fabric composition.

1920s John E Pike sportswear knit

John e pike was a Philadelphia knitwear specialist manufacturer which operated from the late 1800s-early 1900s to 1930.

They dominated the textile industry post World War One, and produced high quality sportswear goods and knit wool goods.

At time, this was what people wore while playing sports, as the cotton sweater had not yet been mass produced and circulated by Russel (1930). Sports teams would wear 100% wool and cashmere uniforms as this was the most durable and available material at the time.

Our 1940s Farmer Scrap Overalls

In the 1930s and 40s, American workers suffered extreme economic hardship. So much so that some workers had no other choice but to make do with what they had. The practice of repairing workwear was especially common among farmers, and often resulted in garments that had been repaired up until the point of it becoming unwearable.

At the end of a garments’s life, large pieces of unrepaired fabric would be harvested and used towards repairing other clothing. The back of the overalls would largely be untouched, given that it faced less abrasion compared to the front of them. This specific pair is missing it’s entire back two panels and it’s front bottom of the right leg.

It is likely the front of this pair of overalls was salvaged and reused (in all Great Depression fashion) to clothe a scarecrow, giving it a second life.

These overalls are not for sale, but you may find them on display in store. Closed today but open again tomorrow at 9am
