I saw this on another business’ page that I follow & wanted to share because it was so well said!
Bargaining when you are buying at an antique fair, or even in an antique store, seems to be expected; normal. Knowing that some people may ask for a better price, vendors may raise their price a bit to allow for that, or may have in mind, what they would be willing to take if a customer offers less. There are people who may take less than they had planned to when the sales have been bad, and they want to at least cover the costs. And there are times when we hold on and will not take less because it may be a unique piece that it’s worth what we are asking and we know we will eventually get what we need to get for it. Some of us may offer you a discount without you asking because you have been a constant customer, in appreciation. Some vendors will not give discounts at all, because they don’t like to deal with the back-and-forth. Let’s be respectful. As a vendor, I don’t have to insult you for asking for a lower price, but as a buyer, you don’t get to insult me, or be dismissive, because you didn’t get your way. We all have to make a living, and we all can be respectful. You work hard for your money and want to keep more of it, and we work hard to gather and bring what we bring to you, and also have to make a living. We chose the work, but that doesn’t mean we are choosing to be disrespected. Peace!
