Bonus Activity: Nature Colour Hunt

This one was such a hit!

We grabbed a few paint chips, some clothespins, and headed out for a walk to see what colours we could find in nature.

The funny part? We quickly realized how hard it was to choose just one thing for each colour!

"Which wildflower is more yellow?"
"This leaf is closer..."
"Oh wait! There's so many different colours of wood chips!"

What started as a simple walk turned into a game of really slowing down and noticing everything around us. I don't think I've ever looked so closely at the colours in nature before.

Such an easy activity, but one we'll definitely be doing again.

A Mermaid Sensory Party 🧜‍♀️

Our mermaid dough bar was such a hit! 💜

Each child picked their favourite sensory dough, then decorated it with seashells, starfish, mermaid tails, pearls and other underwater treasures. It was so much fun watching each little creation come to life—no two were alike!

I love that sensory play gives children the freedom to create, imagine and explore in their own way. Judging by all the smiles, I'd say this party was a splash!

We wrapped up our 7 Days of Sensory Play with a trip back to the age of the dinosaurs!

Today's invitation to play was a dinosaur dough bar filled with loose parts to inspire little imaginations. We rolled out lush green landscapes, pressed dinosaur footprints into the dough, searched for fossils, and even buried a few dinosaur bones along the way.

What I loved most was watching the story change as she played. One minute the dinosaurs were chilling on the grass, the next they were eating cookies! 😆Before long she had created an entirely new prehistoric world.

It's a wonderful reminder that children don't need elaborate activities—just a few simple materials and the freedom to imagine.

Thank you for following along on our 7 Days of Sensory Play! I hope you've discovered a few ideas to try with your own little ones this summer. 💚

Day 7: Today's invitation to play was all about magic potions!

We filled our potion bottles with coloured water, a little shimmer (mica powder), and dried lavender, chamomile, and mint. Then we mixed up a simple fizz using citric acid and water—just like baking soda and vinegar, but without the vinegar smell!

The fizzing reactions were a huge hit, but what surprised me most was what happened afterward.

Once the bubbling stopped, the play kept going. She spent the rest of the afternoon mixing colours, experimenting with different ingredients, creating new potions, and completely immersing herself in her own little world.

Today's invitation to play took us all the way to space... with a little alphabet practice along the way!

We paired our space sensory setup with an alphabet book and had fun searching for the letters, putting them in the correct order, and naming them as we went.

Day 4: Tap the Magic Tree 🍎

Our giant apple tree has started dropping little apples thanks to some very busy squirrels, so it seemed like the perfect time to pull out one of our favourite books, Tap the Magic Tree. 🍎🐿️

After reading the story, we brought out our Apple Orchard sensory bin and talked about how an apple's journey begins with a tiny blossom before it grows into fruit. Then, just like in the book, we explored all four seasons together.

I love when a favourite story inspires a hands-on activity. It's such a fun way to bring books to life and spark conversations about the world around us.

What's your child's favourite book to pair with play?
