Maude Nibelungen

Maude Nibelungen sister moon & ethereal planes // unique knits & custom dreams I started knitting when I was five and always did since then. I painted, played piano, wrote.

I never really thought about designing pieces for anybody but myself.. I actually could never really pick anything precise I really wanted to focus on. I did what felt the most interesting and appropriate at the time and I decided to study History and Religion Anthropology. I guess I only ever tried to understand a nature that sometimes feels surreal and keeps me perpetually perplexed and question

ing. Beauty, pain, love, violence... All those struggles constantly tearing me. I walked, hiked for a while; I've always been restless. Officially since 2010 I've been turning my demons into knitwear. I love the texture possibility range that knitting allows. Matter and anti-matter dancing on the skin. Every garment is handmade and unique, although I follow a certain pattern I like every piece to have its own traits, unevenness and character. I don't think uniform and plastic looking is perfect. As in nature, things can only be so perfect because of the way they are: unique, full of details and soul. The knit you are going wear is going to follow you in your evolution. Writing knitting patterns also involves a lot of mathematics. Unlike fabric made items that are cut and put together, every part of the knit is made from zero to be the size and shape it needs to be. A lot of variations come into concern, the size/ aspect/ shape of the material(s) used, gauge of the instrument(s) you're going to knit with, the chosen stitch pattern(s) and how the combination of all these elements is going to turn. The development and thought process behind each creation is countless. I always work on improving myself, the material I used, my techniques. Each collection is a new part of my evolution, and it could also be part of yours.

Hello! This may seem like a last minute decision, and it sorta is so bear with me 😅. Please go to the end of the caption for all the technical information.

So basically I haven’t had any time off in over 6 months and I’m starting to feel burned out and run down. As some of you may know, I am the mom/ sole caretaker of a child who is disabled. I mention it because it does make a difference. We have several medical appointments a month on top of the daily life additional challenges. It takes a lot of my time and energy and for the last 10 years I have slept an average 3-4 hours per night. I am running on sheer willpower (and a little-medium-big amount of spite). My main goal in life is to be the best mom I can, with everything it entails for me and my son. While I would love to be very successful, expand my brand, live the highlife, it will always be secondary to the wellbeing of my son. I have to be there physically, mentally and emotionally. I was hoping for a magical solution and it somewhat appeared to me in the form of a « YOU NEED TO TAKE A BREAK » epiphany. So that’s what I decided to do.

Now for the technical stuff: it is a PARTIAL HIATUS in the sense that I won’t take orders during that time. Patterns will still be available since they are instant download. The dolls that will be ready on April 10th will also be available to order and will ship in a timely manner. Existing orders, placed before April 1st will also be shipping in a timely manner. At this moment I have about 3 weeks of production left. Every order placed before April 1st will be worked on as quickly as possible and afterwards I’m taking a break :) I’ll probably end up knitting because I love it so much but I’m not taking any order. I want to create freely. I will reopen sometime in May, date TBA.

Please feel free to ask any questions below. I still deeply love what I do and viscerally need it; but I need to take care of myself. I hope you will understand

Hello! Dolls will finally be available for preorder on the 20th, more information about options and delivery dates then.

In parallel, I will also be running a sale on everything else, no code needed. Remaining orders are shipping next week so this is a great time to order (since the production delay is on the quicker end).

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions! 🖤

I started knitting when I was 5. I grew up in the country and especially back then, a lot of things were not accessible to me, physically or financially. When I was 14, I imagined a very funky colorful beanie, with a lot of texture. I couldn’t find the beanie anywhere and I couldn’t find the kind of material I’d need to make it. So I made my own.

My mom was a knitter and she had a lot of yarn catalogues. I attached a photo in case you’ve never seen them, but they basically give you little yarn swatches of about 2 inches so you can see all the colors and fibers. With her permission, I removed them one by one and cleaned them up (it was a lot of work to get rid of the glue tip without wasting too much material). I attached all the little bits together to create my own yarn and knitted a beanie. It was a painstakingly long project but I was so proud of the result! It was the early 2000s and unfortunately, I don’t have a photo of the hat itself. However, I have a drawing of the design (the funky one), alongside with a few other beanie designs I had in mind. The punk 4 life one though 😅 .

Aside from my grandmother who taught me how to cast on, knit and purl, I am self taught. I started with no money, nothing but a lot of ideas and resourcefulness, so it’s important to me to always honor my roots. I want to make the best out of everything I have.

The Wasteland palazzo pants are made with a bit of every yarn I used for this collection. This way, I minimize waste and kinda tie everything together in my heart and mind.
