Slow motion makes everything look more dramatic. Even my questionable riding decisions. 😂🏍️

A few highlights of me throwing the Kove 450 Rally around, captured in glorious slow mo by Steven Tinnell.

There’s something wild about seeing riding slowed right down. The suspension working, the dirt flying, the bike moving underneath you. Moments that are over in a fraction of a second suddenly look completely different.

How many nights did you sleep in a tent this summer? 🏕️🏍️

There’s something about living off a motorcycle that makes life feel incredibly simple.

Everything you need is strapped to the bike.

You ride until you find somewhere that feels right. Set up the tent. Make some food. Watch the light disappear. Crawl into your sleeping bag and do it all again tomorrow.

No house.
No schedule.
Usually no cell service.

Just a tiny tent, a dirty motorcycle and everything you need to be happy for a while.

And somehow, after a few nights of living like this, sleeping on the ground starts to feel less like roughing it and more like exactly where you’re supposed to be.

Summer isn’t quite over yet, so let’s see who’s been putting in the work…

Every summer, there’s always one ride you never forget. 🌅🏍️

The one where everything comes together.

The road.

The bike.

The people.

The view.

This one might be that ride for me.

An epic sunset at the top of a mountain, endless roads below, and the seemingly endless power of the BMW R 12 G/S carrying me there.

These are the rides we chase. The ones that stay with us long after the dust settles.

Chasing my wife through the mountains with a 360 drone feels like the kind of sentence that would have made zero sense a few years ago.

But here we are.

Sometimes a micro adventure is exactly what you need.

We all dream about the massive trips. Weeks on the road, far-off places, big routes, big plans. But ◢◤ NICKY NONIS 📸 📍 Victoria BC and I decided to keep this one simple.

24 hours.
One night of camping.
Not that far from home.
And absolutely no plan other than taking the road least travelled whenever we found one.

Turns out that is a pretty perfect recipe when you are both on small bikes. I was on the Kove 450 Rally and Nicky was on his absolutely insane fully custom DRZ 400, taking it moto camping for the first time since finishing the build.

No need to cross a continent. We just picked a direction, avoided the easy roads, found somewhere to sleep, and had a damn good time doing it.

The whole trip was captured on the Insta360 Ace Pro 2, including these photos. I still cannot get over what comes out of such a tiny camera. The colours and image quality continue to blow me away. 📷

Sometimes you do not need the huge adventure you have been dreaming about. You just need to get out the door for a night, ride somewhere new, sleep outside, laugh with a good friend, and come home feeling a little more human.

Always get out, even if it is only for a micro adventure. It does the head some good. 🏕️🏍️

One last ride on the BMW R 12 G/S before handing the keys back to BMW Motorrad Canada. 🏍️

After a summer of pavement, dirt, moto camping, modifications, and a whole lot of miles, I’ve had plenty of time to figure out what surprised me most about this bike.

And I have a feeling my answer might ruffle a few feathers. 👀

I’m not giving it away here. Watch the reel and let me know if you agree.

What I will say is that the BMW R 12 G/S ended up being a very different motorcycle than I expected when I first picked it up, and that turned out to be one of the things I enjoyed most about it.

Huge thanks to BMW Motorrad Canada for giving me the opportunity to live with this bike for the summer and really find out what it can do. It has been one hell of an adventure. 🙌

Well, this is going to change some riding plans in BC for a while.

With the new temporary wildfire restrictions across a large part of the province, recreational off-road vehicle use on Crown land is prohibited in the affected areas.

For those of us on plated ADV and dual-sport bikes, the important part is this:

We can still ride established roads. We just need to stay on them.

No ducking onto trails. No exploring that little track disappearing into the woods. No “I wonder where that goes?” detours for a while.

And honestly, I get it.

BC is incredibly dry right now. Wildfires are burning, resources are stretched, and protecting these places is a whole lot more important than getting one more trail ride in.

Maybe it’s also a good time to give the bike a once-over. 🔧

Make sure it’s running properly. Check for anything that could create unnecessary heat or sparks. And if your exhaust is supposed to have a spark arrestor, double check that it’s still there and doing its job.

We are incredibly lucky to have access to the backcountry we do.

If staying on established roads for a while helps protect the forests we ride, camp and explore in, that’s a pretty small sacrifice.

Besides, there are a LOT of incredible backroads in BC.
