Tips for Teaching Letters and Letter Sounds.
Introduce letters phonetically instead of the alphabet order. This allows children to quickly form many words with the letters he or she has learned. Here's the order suggested by Tim Seldin (one of the most respected Montessori author and educator).
First set: c m a t
Second set: s r i p
Third set: b f o g
Fourth set: h j u l
Fifth set: d w e n
Sixth set: k q v x y z
Teach lower-case letters first. Most words that
we read and write are written in lower-case letters.
In Montessori curriculum lower-case letters are introduced first, and capital letters later.
Introduce letters by their sounds, not their names. For example instead of saying, this is “Ay” for letter A, say this is “Aah”.
Play the “I spy” sound game .
Collect a few items with different beginning sounds. Say “I spy an object that starts with the sound “cut” to find a cat.
