Hello, I'd like to share my sewing life story with you after a long time. I thought it would be a good idea to share my sewing life history. My father, a master tailor, taught me how to sew when I was growing up, and I found it fascinating. I'm from Sri Lanka, and I come from a big family. My father began his career as a tailor, able to sew clothes for both men and women, with a particular passion for men's suits. He was so skilled that he could sometimes cut patterns without taking measurements, simply by observing someone. I believe I inherited my sewing talent from my family's background.
My main hobby is sewing. Previously, I worked as a seamstress. Before moving to Canada, I was a pattern maker. I worked in well-known factories in Sri Lanka. After the birth of my first child, I decided to stay with her at home. Therefore, I quit my job and started my own sewing studio at home. I had the opportunity to sew a Sri Lankan Airlines uniform. I sewed them in my small factory. I had six workers. I created individual patterns for the crew members of SriLankan Airlines. I cut them, and all my workers sewed them.
Additionally, I also made little girls' dresses. I sold them to very popular shops in Sri Lanka.
When I returned to Canada, I began sewing here. I am specially making sari blouses for Sri Lankans and Indians. I can proudly say not only saree blouses but also evening dresses, alterations/every kind of ladies' outfit. This was my part-time job. I worked on a Bollywood crossover in Payal Business Center. I worked for two years in an Escada brand clothing shop in Vancouver as a seamstress. I got a lot of experience from there.
In 2026, I plan to start offering sewing classes as well. We will meet very soon in my classroom.
To be continued...,
