It’s just one of those ordinary mornings, me going about my ordinary routine to get the kids dropped off, with my mind wandering to far off places as I was driving through the familiar path in front of me. Without realizing it I started coughing a dry morning cough, one followed by another.
Without paying it the least bit of attention, my mind continued to wander…until I started hearing a little noise between the pauses of my cough. It came from the backseat, from a little voice that said, “Bless you, Mama, bless you, mama…”

This post is for all the moms doing their best everyday to keep it together.
I had my first physical today after both kids. The doctor asked me how I was doing emotionally. I paused before I responded, “I’m stressed.” I knew it’s a routine question about my mental health status, but I felt I needed to be honest, and really, be honest with myself.
I was stressed with having to drop both kids off by myself every morning before rushing to work. I was stressed with the mom guilt I feel after lashing out at my kids when I’m tired and upset. I was stressed about the state of my father’s health. I was stressed about not cooking dinner as often as I should, not getting my kids to bed earlier than I do.
It took just one “how are you”, but a true, genuine “how are you” to have me spill and tear up. When I thought I was managing, I was getting by with that smile and “I’m doing well”, but deep inside I needed that opportunity to just be honest.
If you get this far in my post, consider taking the time to ask someone you care about a genuine “how are you”, sometimes that’s all they need to relieve the mounting daily stress.

An update to the previous sunscreen post 🧴 ☀️
Some of you asked about my thoughts on Thinkbaby and recently from my own observations and reactions, I think I figured out what triggered Atticus’ flareup that day.
Thinkbaby uses Zinc Oxide as the active sun blocking ingredient. This makes it a Physical Sunscreen, which does NOT get absorbed into the skin. Physical Sunscreens protect by reflecting the UV rays off of our skin, this is why thorough and even coverage is critical. In comparison, Chemical Sunscreens do absorb into the skin, and they function by absorbing the UV rays and convert them into heat to disperse and release them. The sunscreen referenced in my last post is a Chemical Sunscreen.
I have a preference for Physical Sunscreen as they generally contain a higher ratio of natural ingredients and won’t expose the body to potentially unsafe ingredients (details from my last post). With Thinkbaby, even though there are synthetic ingredients used, it steers clear from those in the dirty dozen list and ones that will trigger reactions for sensitive skin. There’s unfortunately limited physical sunscreen options out there in the market that is 100% natural and safe (if you find one please let me know 🙏). Whilst there are small skincare makers out there who claim to make their own “natural sunscreens”, it definitely isn’t recommended as commercial grade equipment is necessary for creating sunscreens that are safe and effective, and SPF testing MUST be performed to validate their efficacy.
Lately I’ve started applying sunscreen on myself on a regular basis with the weather warming up. I have sensitive skin by nature and 2-3 hrs after each application, I start sensing a tightness to my face. This is due to the astringent properties in zinc oxide that dry out the skin. What exacerbates the dryness is my habit of wanting to thoroughly scrub and rinse the tacky sunscreen and white cast off my skin at the end of the day. The “deep” cleansing, even if I may do so with oils or gentle foaming agents, will inevitably strip my skin of its natural oils and cause a degree of irritation.

It could’ve been that hundredth time I asked,
It could’ve been that one last toy on the floor,
It could’ve been that half eaten cookie lying on my carpet,
It could’ve been everyday last week when the dryer threatened to burst with unfold laundry,
It could’ve been that slippery puddle on the bathroom floor that never seems to dry…

I could’ve and would’ve erupted and said things and acted in ways I could’ve and would’ve felt guilty for…

But then I saw this.
And all the could’ves and would’ves melted away.
This gave me the renewed love and patience to keep going.

So I can patiently ask once more,
So I can pick up that stuffy and put it back where it can wait to offer a snuggly hug,
So I can dust off the old and happily spread a new tablescape of after school snacks,
So I can mesmerize day by day at the little human clothing my children are growing into,
So I can enjoy the silver bells of laughter when we dive together into a bubbly bath.

It could’ve been that one more toy on the floor,
It could’ve been that piece of half eaten cookie on my carpet,
It could’ve been everyday that past week when the dryer threatened to burst with unfold laundry,
It could’ve been that slippery puddle on the bathroom floor that never seems to dry…

Oh, it could’ve and would’ve been a moment I was ready to erupt and may have said things and acted in ways that I could’ve and would’ve felt guilty for…

But then I saw this.
And every bit of these could’ves and would’ves melted away.
And this fills me with the love that I need to keep going each day…

So I can ask again with renewed patience,
I can pick up that stuffy and put it back where it can wait to offer a snuggly hug,
I can dust off the old and lay a fresh tablescape of yummy after school snacks,
I can be mesmerized day by day by the little human clothes that my children are growing into,
I can enjoy the silver bells of laughter when we dive into the fun of our bubbly bath.
