I have always been drawn to the creative world of fashion and have had a strong desire to express myself through design. I grew up on the North Shore of Long Island, in a family that valued history and timeless style. Ever
y six months, my mother would travel to England to curate a new collection of treasures for her antique shop. Our home was filled with fascinating objects and beautiful furniture that ignited my imagination. My great grandmother, Electra Havemeyer Webb (1888-1960), was the pioneering collector of American folk art and founded Shelburne Museum in 1947. Electra had a keen eye for art, which inspired me and encouraged my natural bent towards design. I pursued my childhood passions in college, taking classes at Parsons School of Design and graduating from Barnard College. Upon graduation, I began working at Ralph Lauren as an accessory designer. During my time at Polo, I had the opportunity to work under Vera Wang, which helped me cultivate my distinct style and hone my craft. Since then, I’ve designed a line of cocktail and evening wear called Heidi Kirkland that was carried by Nordstom and Henri Bendel in New York and lived out my greatest dream of having a family of my own. For the past 20 years, I’ve been a wife and mother to three boys. Being a mother is the most difficult and beautiful job I have ever done. As I look back on my time at Polo, I remember the busyness of organizing accessories for our quarterly fashion shows. For four weeks every year, I was on-call around the clock, pulling all-nighters to orchestrate every detail. Little did I know, being a partner to my husband and mother to my three boys would be so much more demanding. Life is full, but very rewarding. I have never been so fulfilled. Now, my kids are grown and I’m onto the next great adventure. The Heidi Carey collection combines a lifetime of lessons learned and classic style, creating a compilation of compelling accessories. Every piece has an elegance and ease about it, reflecting my personal approach to fashion and love for innovative design. The accessories are handcrafted from exotic materials and semi-precious stones, making them invaluable heirlooms that will stand the test of time.
