Heya friends! Long time no post.

I’ll be honest, I had put my business on the back burner and returned to work full time. It’s been an eventful couple of years and I now have the capacity and drive to come back into this space.

My wardrobe consultations and alterations services are still very much available, and have interestingly picked up with little to no effort.

That said, I’m going back to the original intent of this business. I am my happiest when I am able to suppprt another human in showing up in their truth. I have done this in so many ways and now I am ready to offer this on a greater more committed scale.

I’ve pulled out the framework of how I work, yes just like you hear about on so many other platforms. I’ve gone ahead and put it into a super simple offering that’s at an accessible price point. I’m ready to share it with you and bring in a very limited number of people next month.

Now more than ever we need to be grounded, present and able to respond. Now more than ever we need to be able to stand in our truth and speak from that place. Now more than ever we need pockets and communities of support and encouragement.

If you’re extra curious, send me a DM! I’m happy to chat more about it. No sales pitch, promise. Otherwise stay tuned for more info in the coming days.

It only took me 6 months… to finish writing ‘Barbie is a Muse in our Patriarchal World - Part TWO’. Its when I realized there’s another part yet to come that I finally found the outline. Its a much more personal account of my place beteeen the world of Barbie and the patriarchy. Despite numerous requests to make my blogs shorter, this one is not a quick read. If you read it I’d love to hear your thoughts on the piece. Tap the link in my bio or go to fashionyourlife.ca/the-muse for more.

The other day I did a thing that required some makeup so I took a pic. Thing I can’t decide is whether the slight smile or the serious straight face is better… they are both powerful yet intricately different expressions. That’s the funny thing about selfies, and just facing ourselves in general, we often get into our heads about how we look when how we feel is so much more important. When you feel beautiful or handsome you look beautiful or handsome, when you feel sad you look sad, when you feel any which way that’s what you emit whether you like it or not… energy is much more powerful than we give it credit for sometimes. I felt powerful in both of these pics, and even tho makeup is often used as a ‘mask’ it can also be used to highlight your favourite features through strategic color, texture and placement.

If you’ve read this far now you get to find out that I started a 9-5 a couple months ago. I had an opportunity that is a great fit, I took some time to listen to my intuition and said yes. It’s been quite the adjustment period, I hadn’t worked FT for someone else in nearly a decade and I’ve had to give myself loads of grace. This also means my business along with my accessibility has been dialed back big time. I’ll continue to explore and play in this space and I am excited to share some things I am working on in my very limited spare time that are aligned with my goals shared earlier this year.

I did a thing!

I wrote a guest blog post for a brand I know and love.
I’ll admit I had a lot of support and it was a team effort to make it beautiful. I had fun working with the brand owner (Tammi is the best) and Glynis (a fashion SEO expert) to make it the stand out blog you get to enjoy. True collaboration, where everyone is working from their strengths, is my love language in business.

Bra-Serie is definitely making it into my personal product recommendations guide, that wasn’t even a question. Wanna get your hands on a copy? Keep an eye out for how later this spring.

There’s always more than one way to look at something. It’s when we get stuck in our ways that we’ve quite literally lost all perspective.

Take Miley Cyrus with her 5 outfits at the Grammys, every single one of them absolutely stunning IMO, she’s clearly having a moment and singing at the top of her game.

Then there’s the simple fact that she had 5 - FIVE outfit changes… which simply perpetuates the narratives of ‘I need to over consume to show up in a way that impresses’ and ‘I can’t wear the same thing more than once’ or more correctly ‘heaven forbid I wear the same outfit for an entire event’.

Granted 2 of her outfits were vintage Bob Mackie designs (can you tell which ones?) - yet the other 3 were fully custom.

1) custom-made for her by Maison Margiela
2) custom Tom Ford jumpsuit
3) vintage Bob Mackie dress
4) vintage ensemble designed by Bob Mackie
5) Gucci custom-made a single-sleeve gown

Famous singers throughout history are well known for having multiple costume changes to impress their fans at a show… building hype along with their brand image, while influencing others to want to be more like them.

I’m not saying that one way is ‘right’ while the other is ‘wrong’, I’m simply saying that it perpetuates a harmful narrative instead of helping to deconstruct said harmful narratives.

Its not about taking away from, it’s about shifting our perspective.

Aside from the obvious ‘I think’ statements, what does seeing a superstar wear so many outfits at one event do to your psyche? How does this make you feel?

P.S. I think she looks amazing in all 5 looks!

Let’s talk GOALS!

Goals have always alluded me a bit… I’ve made them countless times but never really followed through. Probably because I felt disassociated with them, like they’re too far ‘out there’. This is partly due to me creating them as if I was wishing on a star, it’s also partly due to creating them for some reason other than it’s what I truly want. This year I finally feel more clear and aligned than ever before, both from a personal and a business POV. So here they are 🎉

What’s a goal that finally feels aligned for you? Share in the comments so we can celebrate each other.

Me at home during a cold winter night: what I wore today, what I got from a swap but the fabric is too flimsy for the style, what I got for grandpa core that was made in Ireland of wool, what I got to wear when I want to pretend I know how to do the Celtic dance 💃🏻 Gary is the ultimate photo bomber 🐈‍⬛ Do you have a favorite?

For the past 3 seasons at Eco Fashion Week (SS22 ‘found fabrics’, FW22 ‘new foundations’ & SS23 ‘re-creations’) I’ve collaborated with such incredible people to showcase my creativity in the form of eco focused ‘collections’. Straight out of fashion design college I knew I wanted to start my own business but I also knew I didn’t want to start a collection. I don’t believe in the model of ‘making sh*t in the hopes that it’ll sell’. Most people thought that’s what I’d do, naturally, but with no role models showing me how it could be done, I instead started an over 20 year career in the fashion industry. While I’ve always been a designer at heart, I didn’t allow myself to own this title until more recently. It may be because I am just as technically inclined as I am creatively. I’m incredibly grateful for my experiences at a variety of high caliber companies all across Canada that has helped me hone my skills, develop professionally and personally in profound ways and have the oppprtunity to work alongside fantastic (and some not so fantastic) people. Showcasing my ‘collections’ at eco fashion week allowed me to step into my creativity again, after surviving breast cancer and subsequent treatment, and to discover how things can come together when you have a purpose and are surrounded by other passionate people. I’m not 100% certain what the future holds (if anyone says they are they’re lying to themselves) but I do know how incredibly grateful I am to have met and worked alongside everyone along the way. Thank you.
