Haven't had the energy to draft and sew a full project in quite a while. Rediscovered that drive the other night ahead of a bikepacking trip.

This here is a very quick copy of the MEC Kermi 30L Tote, which knowing MEC, is probably a close copy of some other bag. While theirs is designed for climbing, mine is for biking and everyday.

I saw the bag and liked the concept of it unzipping to lay flat. I bought it and used it for a little bit and soon understood it's flaws.

While my copy doesn't fully satisfy me, nor fix the flaws of MEC's bag, it works pretty good as a quick prototype and concept of design.

My version, unlike MEC's allows you to adjust the bottom fold, making it shallower or deeper. This changes what can fit in it, and what it can fit in, as well as how it hangs on my shoulder.

Mine worked great on my trip, nesting perfectly in my To Go Box and Wald 137 basket. With all camping gear in my frame and seat bags, it was a great grab and go option for up front.

Getting access to a bigger space in the fall, so may find the time to sew more often. Time will tell.

Hey all, I will be participating in another craft fair although this time it will be more like a normal craft fair. Come visit me out at Centennial Park in Central Saanich tomorrow, Saturday November 21st and next Saturday, November 28th! I will be set up from 9-1 and have a tent with side walls. I do not have a banner yet but I sell bright bags so look for those.

11L Everyday Pack

This pack is small but mighty. Made of 1000d Cordura it's durable and water-resistant with a padded back. Clamshell opening with an internal laptop sleeve and notebook sleeve the pack also has 4 exterior pockets. The pack has two front zippered pockets, the bottom with additional organization sleeves. The two side pockets are a tad small for a bottle but are the perfect size for a pocket umbrella, my Pixel 4, snacks, a single banana, and probably one of those mini ginger ales. The straps are wide, thick (just under 0.5") and comfy. The colour is more of a burnt orange in person versus this vibrant orange that the screen shows.

This is the first pack I've made in about a year and it's nice to make bigger things for a change. I will be making more similar packs and have the bits and pieces for a few more in different materials (X10, X-Pac, Black Cordura). I like small packs that are less than 18L and will likely continue to make them this way.

On another note, I'm participating in the Peninsula Country Market tomorrow from 9-1, outside at Centennial Park in Central Saanich. This pack will be on display along with my other goods. If you feel like coming out, please wear a mask and socially distance.

Picture of my girlfriend and I (ft Vegas).

So today went alright.

Weather was much better compared to last time. It was overcast all day and cold but the wind and rain held off. I had slightly more visitors and more sales too. I was also more prepared and had some help setting up and taking down (thanks mom!).

I'm beginning to get my display dialed in and the next two weekends will be easier now that I've had lots of practice. Reminder: I will be setup at the Saanich Peninsula Country Market on Nov 21st and 28th from 9-1. It is being held in Centennial Park in Central Saanich and will be on pavement. By then I will also have a 10x10 with side walls.

I have 8 backpacks in the work and am hoping to have some or all on display by next weekend. I will also be adding more crossbody bags as they have been popular. It's ambitious but I may also begin listing these on Etsy again so that in between the fairs I have a greater chance of making sales.

Overall it's been great learning, I got to be outside all day, and I also got to eat some chocolate and drink good tea. What else do you need?

PS - I am not going to be setup on Sunday. I need to take a break and also have some school work to focus on.

Giving it a go once more with the this Saturday and also Sunday (Sat is for sure, Sun is a maybe).

I haven't had a lot of time to sew new stuff but I do have a few more crossbody bags and f***y packs available.

Following this craft fair I will also be taking part in the Saanich Peninsula Country Market on November 21st and 28th. This will be held in a paved parking lot in Centennial Park in Central Saanich and will be with 50ish vendors total. Masks are mandatory and I will supply hand sanitizer. By that point I will also have a new 10x10 with zippered side walls and heavy leg weights. Unfortunately I was not able to get the tent + side walls for this weekend but I will adapt and make some other contraption.

The majority of my products are $5-$30 with a a few crossbody bags and f***y packs in the $35-$60 range. Come take a look this Saturday between 10am-4pm @ 3826 Epsom Dr.

I participated in the this last Saturday. I have done garage sales and swap meets before but this was a different gig.

I knew prior to signing up that the toughest thing would be the lack of gaurenteed foot traffic/ traffic flow. At a specific venue - whether indoors or out - it is easier to expect that there will be traffic. With this setting however, that is not the case. I had about 20-25 people come by throughout the course of the day. Considering this super low number, I had okay sales. For every 4 people I made 1 sale. Not bad.

The other frustrating thing was the wind. It was sunny and cold which is fine. That's not a terrible combo. The downside to the day, the thing that can't be planned, is the weather, and specifically that wind. We had consistent wind until 12 and gusts the whole day.

This made the display difficult. I started the day with a well guyed 10x10, a tarp on one side to help with heat, and product displayed on tables. This setup lasted about 30 minutes. Once the wind picked up I had to improvise. The tent went down, the tarp away, I emptied every basket I owned to use to hold my product, and I weighted baskets down with weights. That worked well so I stuck with it.

I had planned for the day to be a learning experience and that it was. I made the sale ratio I wanted although numbers weren't ideal. The wind did it's thing but now I have a few tricks up my sleeve. I learned about the craft fair demographic and what they want and due to all the extra stock I made, I have loads for next time/ to put up for sale online.

All in all, the day was what it was but I made sales and learned a bunch.

I am back in November 14th and 15th, 10-4 to try again.

Item: Prototype Shoulder Briefcase (Padded)

This was a fun nighttime project. Based off the Topo Designs Block Bag, this is capable of holding a little more stuff while still staying in the same lane as the crossbody bag/ large sacoche.

I copied the dimensions of the Block Bag, adding in seam allowance. What I did differently though was I padded everything except for the main zipper. The whole back panel, front panel behind the front pocket, and bottom up the sides is all padded with 1/8" EVA foam.

While not quite large enough for my Chromebook (didn't think of designing the bag around it until I was done), it would fit a tablet or a small notebook. The bag measures about 10"x 7"x 1.5". Ideally it would have slightly more depth but the foam took a lot away.

It has more than enough room to hold a tablet, a notebook, a phone, wallet, keys and anything else you need. It has uber organization for what it is and the security of the padding lets you be free with what you put into it.

I might test this one out a little but eventually I'll put it up for sale.

Item: Coil/ Card Holder

I scored a deal on scrap real and feaux leather a little while back. These are made with some of that. It's cool sewing with stuff other than X-pac and Cordura. These turned out well and I'll be making more that are similar soon.

Item: Sacoche Prototype

A Sacoche is a Japanese-influenced bag that is typically worn over the shoulder or neck in the front. It is designed to be low profile so one can wear a garment - like a zip up jacket - over top. They come in all sizes although most are under 10" long and feature at least one main pocket.

I have been sewing a lot this last week (although this piece is from a few months ago) and will be posting some of what I have been making throughout the coming week.

I'm taking part in a YYJ Craft Crawl in a couple weeks. Instead of being hosted inside, vendors setup in their driveways and maps are posted with directions to the vendors in a given area.

With indoor craft fairs, you don't have to worry about rain nor traffic. Outside in my driveway will be interesting. With no way to gaurentee traffic, I'll have to rely largely on personal marketing and word of mouth.

I've been sewing a bunch in the lead up. Making more toiletry bags, zippered pouches, f***y packs, handlebar bags and more. Regardless of my success on the day, I will have lots of stock to add to the website and to Etsy afterwards.

Date for the upcoming is Saturday, Oct 24 from 10am-4pm. I also have another planned for Sat & Sun, November 13th and 14th.

I'll have more info and location closer to.
