Well friends after a really long time. Waiting 17 months, it’s my turn for a knee replacement next week.

In the past 3 weeks we have been scrambling to get things done up.

Not sure just how long my recovery time will be. But please check back to see when I’m back taking sewing machines in for service.

2025 was a great year, meeting so many new people and seeing again people that have been coming for service for many years.

We are very excited entering into a new year. 2026 will be my 51st year in the sewing machine repair. With no slowing down I enjoy want I do, and meeting old and new customers and friends.

Today We Celebrate

National Sewing Machine Day is observed annually on June 13th. This day celebrates the invention of the sewing machine, which revolutionized garment production and has numerous other applications.

History:
The first blueprints for a sewing machine were drawn in 1790 by English cabinet maker Thomas Saint, but the machine itself didn't materialize until 1874 when William Newton built it based on Saint's design. Walter Hunt invented the first American lockstitch sewing machine in 1832, according to National Day Calendar. Elias Howe, who is also credited with inventing a sewing machine, was born on July 9, 1819, says Library of Congress.
Impact:
The sewing machine significantly impacted garment production and mass-produced clothing. It also became essential for other industries like furniture manufacturing, where it was used for upholstery, curtains, and more.

Wow it’s almost hard to believe. So many of you have asked me when dropping off or picking up your sewing machine for service.

When did I make my start in fixing sewing machines. Well this July 2025 marks 50 years, wow 50. I can hardly believe it myself.

My father being a sewing machine mechanic himself, and having his own business ABW Sewing Machine wasn’t ready to give me a full time summer job yet. He at that time had no shop, just working from his car going on service calls to the many garment factories in Winnipeg.

Found me my first summer job at JD Products an embroidery company. This is where I got my feet wet. Doing a number of jobs that summer of 1975. From putting sewing machine parts away changing needles oiling and changing belts on the many different types of machines. To even running a multi head embroidery machine.

This was an experience for such a young person, I was 14.

After that I continued to go back to school.
And working part time with my father and mother.

And then when I completed school at age of 18 I went to work with my father and mother. Full time at ABW Sewing Machine.

Many things have changed in the industry. The business has become smaller, but as many have said to me. I guess you love what you do.

I guess their right, I love working on sewing machines, and really love meeting so many new people. I feel like they all become friends.

So I’m here to stay loving what I do.

belt tension adjustment, timing check, feed mechanism checking, adjustment of upper and lower thread tensions, preform sewing test, with sewing sample provided.

Good Morning Sewing Friends

Lately I’ve been asked if I service / repair older sewing machines, the answer is yes.

I enjoy taking heirloom treasures that have been handed down, to daughters and granddaughters. And sons and grandsons.

Some machines may of sat in storage. And now need some TLC.
