CREEative Beadery

CREEative Beadery Tansi, my name is Samantha Dumas, founder of CREEative Beadery and a proud Swampy Cree woman from Norway House Cree Nation (Treaty No. 5).

I am an Indigenous artist with experience in beadwork and ceremonial item crafting, guided by Elders and Knowledge Keepers. I facilitate hands-on Indigenous art and cultural workshops in schools and community settings, focusing on the creation of traditional art forms in a respectful and supportive environment. Workshops may include medicine bags, hand drums, hide and turtle shell rattles, and rib

bon skirts. I also offer traditional and custom beaded art projects such as loom beading, beaded keychains, medallions, pins, and other custom requested projects. Cultural teachings, protocols, and blessing ceremonies are shared by invited Knowledge Keepers and Elders, while I guide participants through the artistic and craft-making process. Sessions are adaptable for all ages and can be customized to meet the needs of each group. My work is grounded in respectful collaboration with other cultural artists, Elders, Grandmothers, and Knowledge Keepers, ensuring each workshop honours cultural protocols and community traditions. In addition to workshops, I also create custom beaded and ceremonial pieces for Elders, special events, organizations, and individual commissions—always with care, respect, and intention. Through CREEative Beadery, I strive to create respectful spaces for creativity, learning, and cultural connection, honouring Indigenous teachings while supporting collaboration, community, and cultural continuity. I had the honour of facilitating a beaded medicine bag workshop for a beautiful group of women, hosted by Manitoba Moon Voices Inc.✨

The ladies were so welcoming and a joy to work with. Each one created a unique and meaningful medicine bag, truly beautiful work all around.

The venue itself was absolutely stunning. Being at the Indigenous Arts & Cultural Centre, surrounded by powerful artwork and thoughtful design, felt like stepping into a living museum. It brought such a special energy to the experience.

It’s always an honour for me to share these cultural workshops and to witness the creativity, connection, and spirit that comes through in each group.

Miigwetch, Manitoba Moon Voices, for trusting me to be part of your journey. 💛

I am grateful to share my first 8-doorway buffalo hide drum that I previously made. I asked my daughter, Christina Dumas, to paint it with a buffalo, honouring Respect within the Seven Sacred Teachings. I am thankful that, through her artwork, she brought it to life using the colours of the medicine wheel. I hold deep gratitude for the beauty and spirit within this finished piece. 🦬✨ I also love that the rattle she painted for me also matched my drum! ♥️

I also want to share that she offers commission work for ceremony items and other meaningful pieces. You may share your vision, colours, spirit name, or anything that carries meaning for you. Her page is OJI-CREEations. Please feel free to contact me if you are interested. 🎨🌿

Today I’m sharing the finishing touches on my beautiful buffalo rattle 🦬✨ This hide rattle was crafted by my bestie Janine Niizhode 🤍 and thoughtfully painted by my talented daughter, Christina Dumas @ OJI-CREEations 🎨 I added my own touches with gemstones—obsidian and rose quartz—for protection and love, along with leather décor and a red line at the bottom of the rattle to give it grounding, connecting it to my spirit, offering protection, and reflecting my identity.

Christina incorporated my spirit colors, red and yellow ❤️💛, and included my spirit name, Red Hawk Woman Flying Low 🦅, along with a three-tone circle representing my three children on one side. The other side reflects my deep connection to the turtle 🐢, my commitment to truth, and my love for florals 🌸🌿

Thank you, my girl 🤍 for such a thoughtful design. This is a deeply meaningful ceremonial gift, and I will truly cherish it on my journey ✨💛

Good morning friends ☀️

The turtle earrings are complete! 🐢💜✨ There were a few changes along the way, something that naturally happens during the creative process, but I’m so happy with how they turned out.

Thank you, Karen Fleming, for trusting me and giving me the freedom to create something special for your upcoming event. It was truly an honour to make these earrings for you 💛

💜🐢💛 Turtle love in the making—sneak peek!

I’m creating this special piece for a custom order, and I’m so excited to share it! Turtles have always held a deep connection to me, they symbolize truth in our 7 sacred teachings. These cabochones have been with me for 2 years, and I’m thrilled they are finally getting a new home.

These earrings will sparkle with 2 cut Charlotte beads and bicone bead accents ✨💎. Can’t wait to share the finished piece!
