Reasons why sunscreens are beneficial for us in the tropics

***The tropics is at 90⁰ to the sun which therefore means people in the tropics are more exposed to ultraviolet radiations than those in the temperate régions.

When uv rays strikes the skin;

- It brings about surface dehydration which may inturn lead to over production of sebum as a means to recover the moisture loss which may lead to acne.

- It also leads to excess Melanin production as a means to protect the skin against uv damage which brings about hyperpigmentation.

- sun radiation on the skin may also lead to premature aging ( wrinkling and tightness of the skin) .

- Long exposure to the sun without protection may destroy Langerhans cells of the skin which are meant to protect the skin against invasion of pathogens.
