🧵 Right-Hand Twill vs. Left-Hand Twill – What’s the real difference?

Twill fabric gets its character from the diagonal lines formed when warp and weft yarns interlace. In denim, the classic 4/1 twill (over 3 warp threads, under the 4th) creates that iconic texture we all love.
🔍 How to tell them apart?
· Right-Hand Twill (Z-Twill) – the diagonal runs from lower left to upper right ↗️, just like the middle stroke of a “Z”. This is the most common weave out there.
· Left-Hand Twill (S-Twill) – the diagonal goes from lower right to upper left ↖️, mirroring the curve of an “S”.
🤔 Why does it matter?
Most cotton yarns are spun with a Z-twist (clockwise). When woven as RHT, the twist gets tighter – the fabric becomes stiffer and crisper, perfect for sharp, pronounced fades.
LHT weaves against that twist, so the yarns relax – giving you a softer, fluffier hand feel right from day one.
