The textile industry is shifting from voluntary sustainability to mandatory compliance, with regulations paving the way for Textile-to-Textile (T2T) recycling.

The European Union leads with its Green Deal, mandating that by 2030, textiles must be durable and largely recycled. Key drivers include the Digital Product Passport (DPP) for transparency and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), which forces brands to fund recycling, creating a financial incentive for circularity.

In the United States, California’s Responsible Textile Recovery Act of 2024 (SB-707) imposes EPR on producers, requiring them to join Producer Responsibility Organizations (PROs) to fund recovery systems and boost domestic recycling infrastructure.

These policies signal that the linear "take-make-waste" model is obsolete. By enforcing traceability and funding recovery, regulators are clearing the path for T2T.

Brands integrating closed-loop recycling are securing both compliance and long-term resilience.
