✨ Heritage Day - Saturday 19th September ✨
We are delighted to be part of Heritage Day in Appleby, celebrating the town’s rich history, craftsmanship and living heritage at the beautiful St Lawrence’s Church.
🪡 The Athelstan 927 Tapestry
The first panels of this remarkable embroidered artwork will be on display and being stitched throughout the day. Over the next three years, Phillipa will be working with more than 100 local volunteers to create a series of panels telling the story of the life and reign of King Æthelstan, widely regarded as the first King of the English.
At 11.45am, artist Ursula Hurst and historic embroidery specialist Phillipa Turnbull will give a special presentation about the project and the journey ahead.
👑 Lady Anne Clifford
Also on display will be a newly presented permanent display featuring Lady Anne Clifford in replica 17th-century court dress, the result of an incredible nine-year project involving more than 50 volunteer embroiderers, seamstresses, tailors, lacemakers and pattern makers.
