The Camino Calls Again!

In 2026, I will lace up my trail sneakers once more and return to the rhythm of the Camino. Another walk. Another amazing experience. Another surrender. Another chance to walk beyond my shoes.

This won’t be my first Camino but every time feels like the first. The terrain may be familiar, but the soul is never the same. I walk not to escape, but to remember. To listen. To shed. To receive.

Hundreds of kilometers across Spain await. Blisters will come. Silence will deepen. And somewhere between the dust and the dawn, I know I will not only meet myself again, but many new friends as well!

This journey is not about distance. It’s about depth. Not about arrival. But awakening.

Follow along as I prepare to walk the path once more, sharing reflections, rituals, and “sole” stories from the road. Because the Camino doesn’t just change your feet. It changes your life.

Day 30 - Muxia

There comes a wisdom in realizing that sometimes, the most nourishing act after traversing 550km’s is to simply embrace the art of stillness. To do nothing and to be nothing. As I find myself in Muxia, I surrender to the serenity that allows the silence of my mind to take center stage. In this pause on life, I open my heart to the whispers of the universe.

I reflect on my journey, each step a prayer, each breath an affirmation of life's rhythms. The path behind me, with its trials and triumphs, has sculpted my spirit and grounded my soul. Here, in the tranquility of this beautiful town Muxia, I connect with the spiritual essence of my pilgrimage. I sense the divine presence in the crashing waves, the salty breeze, and the ancient stones beneath my feet.

Every now and then, through out today as I drift into reflection, I feel a gentle reminder that the journey was not just a physical endeavor but a spiritual awakening. The km’s I’ve walked have been a meditation, a dialogue with the divine, guiding me toward deeper self-awareness and inner peace.

In the sacred stillness, I find not only rest but also a profound connection with the universe. This, indeed, is the true culmination of my path, a moment of spiritual alignment and inner harmonization that transcends the physical journey. Here, in the magical embrace of Muxia, I am reminded that sometimes, the most profound journey happens within, in the quiet spaces of stillness and reflection.

Day 29 - Liras to Muxia

As I reach Muxia, I find myself pondering, is this the end, or merely the beginning?

This journey has nourished my soul, filling it with insights about where I aspire to be in life. Exciting times are on the horizon as I set forth on the next phase of my journey, intent on making my newfound aspirations a reality.

In my humble opinion, Muxia is the perfect place to end a Camino. This quaint and tranquil town, nestled by the Atlantic ocean, invites quiet reflection. Its serene ambiance, with little to distract from the natural beauty and spiritual essence, provides the perfect setting to contemplate the 560km’s I have walked across the breathtaking landscapes of Portugal and Spain.

Ending my 10th Camino in Muxia feels great! Here, with the sound of waves crashing against the rocky coastline and the breathtaking sunsets painting the horizon, I feel my mind, heart, and soul perfectly aligned.
I am overwhelmed with a sense of gratitude. The wonderful emotions of joy, love, and peace are abundant within me. Every step, every moment of this journey has culminated in this point of serene clarity.

In Muxia, I have found not just the end of a path, but the inception of a new, profound journey.

Day 28 - Finisterre to Liras

Today, I find myself in a profound quietude, a stillness that transcends words. As I walked the path from Finisterre to Liras, the thoughts that usually flood my mind has given way to a serene and beautiful silence. In this sacred silence, I choose to simply be, embracing the is-ness of the present and the breathtaking beauty that continues to surround me.

As my Camino journey continues, I realise more and more that the most powerful moments of our journey are those spent in quiet reflection, where we truly connect with the essence of who we are and the boundless beauty of the universe.

Day 27 - Cee to Finisterre

The beauty today was beyond comprehension! Each day of this journey has unveiled increasingly breathtaking vistas, but today was truly something special.

The walk to the lighthouse, culminating in a sunset that painted the sky with hues of orange and yellow, was an experience I will never forget. Standing there at the edge of the world, with the vast Atlantic stretching out before me, I felt an overwhelming sense of serenity.

My heart is overflowing with gratitude.
My mind is a tranquil sea.
My soul is at peace.
My feet, however, are feeling the strain! 😂😂
My back has decided to throw in a spasm for good measure.
As for my hip, it's currently a mystery, just a persistent little ni**le.

Covering 26km’s today has brought me so close to the end of this incredible journey.

Finisterre, known as the "End of the Earth," carries with it a profound sense of finality and reflection. Once believed to be the edge of the known world, it’s a fitting culmination for a pilgrimage. Touching the 00km way mark, I felt a deep connection to those who have walked these paths for centuries.

Only 2 days left on this amazing journey!

Day 26 - Olveiroa to Cee

This morning started with a misty veil over Olveiroa, but it soon gave way to clear skies, revealing the breathtaking scenery that accompanied us all day. The Camino to Finisterre remains my favorite route, and I am incredibly grateful to be walking it for the third time.

Today’s journey covered 24km’s, taking us through some stunning landscapes. After leaving Olveiroa, the path meandered through lush forests and rolling hills, offering panoramic views of the Galician countryside. We passed through the quaint hamlets of Logoso and Hospital, where the rustic charm and tranquility added to the magic of the walk.

As we approached Cee, the terrain changed, leading us closer to the coast. The first sight of the Atlantic Ocean was awe-inspiring, and the descent into the bayside town of Cee was filled with excitement. The town itself is a picturesque spot, with its beautiful harbor and inviting atmosphere, perfect for a restful evening after a long day’s walk.

We walked quite a distance today and each step continues to bring new perspectives and a deeper appreciation for this incredible journey. Tomorrow, we will reach the ancient Atlantic town of Finisterre, marking a significant milestone with only 2 more days of walking left.

490km’s walked….

I am floating,
Rising higher than even my wildest dreams.
In the stillness,
Beyond the clamor of my restless mind.

Day 25 - St Marina to Olveiroa

Hello “sunshine”! After yesterday’s relentless downpour, we were delighted to wake up to the warm embrace of the sun.

Our morning began with a simple breakfast, freshly squeezed orange juice, a slice of toast generously spread with jam, and a robust Americano. This meal did not give us the energy we needed to embark on our walk to Olveiroa, however we were grateful!

The landscape today was nothing short of mesmerizing (again)! I found myself lost in today’s beauty, so much that I barely stopped to take photographs. With every step, I was marinating in a constant stream of nature’s splendor, appreciating the lush, verdant surroundings that seemed to stretch endlessly.

We trekked along tranquil farm roads, meandered between cow sheds, and passed flourishing mielie lands. The views were a pastoral dream, rolling green hills dotted with patches of wildflowers, rustic stone walls weaving through the scenery, and clusters of ancient trees offering their shade.

Our day ended in comfort at a private albergue, Casa Manola, where €15 not only secured our stay but also included towels and disposable sheets. It was a small luxury in this ongoing adventure, a perfect way to unwind after a stunning 15km walk.

Serenity and beauty followed us every step of the way today, making it a truly unforgettable journey.

Day 24 - Negreira to St. Marina

The rain persisted through the night, and by morning, it had metamorphosed into a nourishing shower for the farmlands that we walked through today!

We set out from Negreira around 08:00, only to find all the coffee bars closed. The disappointment stung, as we were cold and drenched, craving warmth and shelter. The first 10km’s were a test of endurance in the pouring rain, with no refuge in sight.

The path was muddy and sludge, and my choice of socks and sandals seemed almost comical under the circumstances.

Reaching the Albergue at Alto Pena felt like salvation. We rejoiced, soaking and shivering, as we took sanctuary from the relentless rain for an hour or two! The coffee there was divine, and with the rain slightly lifting we decided to press on to the next town, about 5km’s away.

Barely 500 meters into our walk, the skies opened up again, drenching us within seconds. Sludge, sludge, and more sludge, we trudged on until the next coffee shop. By then, the soaking, the hunger, and the bone-chilling cold were too much to bear. We decided enough was enough. It was time for a taxi!!

Even now, hours later, I remain cold, wet, and shivering. But dinner lifted my spirits with a hearty lentil soup that was simply scrumptious.

We are staying at Casa Pepa Albergue in St. Marina for €15 tonight, after braving 16km’s in the rain.

Tomorrow promises sunshine. Anyways just being in the equanimity of it all……

Day 23 - Santiago to Negreira

Leaving Santiago is never easy, but we took solace in knowing that we were embarking on the final stretch of our Camino journey to Finisterre and then onwards to Muxia.

Our stay at the Last Stamp Albergue was a mixed experience. The vibrant atmosphere, filled with pilgrims celebrating their monumental achievements, made for a sleepless night for both Maria and me. A strong cup of coffee was an absolute necessity before we set foot on the picturesque path to Negreira.

As we walked, we passed through one of my favorite spots on the Finisterre route, Ponte Maceira. This small, amazing town boasts a beautiful 13th-century Roman bridge that spans the Tambre River. Although the only restaurant in town was closed, we made do by sitting by the riverbank, savoring the last of our pistachios.

The Camino Finisterre is dotted with magical towns and villages that often go unnoticed due to their size, remote locations, or simply because they are hidden gems. The Camino, in its wisdom, reveals these treasures to those who seek. Ponte Maceira is one such gem, the first iconic stop after leaving Santiago de Compostela.

Today's walk covered 20km’s, bringing my total distance walked to 435km’s.

We are staying at Albergue Coton tonight, which cost €15. The receptionist was fantastic, fluent in English and incredibly helpful in securing our accommodations for the next three evenings.

Tomorrow 70% chance of rain……. ☔️

Day 22 - O Milladoiro to Santiago

Words failed me again today as I stood mesmerized by the grand and majestic Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. It is a sight that never loses its awe, no matter how many times you behold it. This marks my 10th Camino, and yet, the thrill of walking into Santiago for the 9th time is as exhilarating as ever.

The cathedral stands as a beacon for pilgrims from all walks of life, each having followed diverse routes of the Camino. Its towering spires and intricate baroque facade seem to reach for the heavens!

We walked a total of 19km’s exploring Santiago, and we allowed ourselves to indulge. We drank more beer than we probably should have, and savored every bite of the local specialty, Santiago cake. There is something profoundly satisfying about this, it’s as if the city itself invites us to celebrate both our physical endurance and spiritual fulfillment.

The Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela is not just an architectural wonder but a monument steeped in history. It is famously believed to house the remains of St. James the Greater, one of Jesus Christ's apostles. According to legend, St. James' relics were carried by his disciples from Jerusalem to the coast of Galicia, and then inland to what is now Santiago de Compostela. The cathedral has been a destination for pilgrims ever since, making it one of the most significant pilgrimage sites in the Christian world.

But our Camino doesn't conclude here. Tomorrow, we will follow the waymarks that guide us to Finisterre, once considered the very end of the known world.

In the labyrinth of Santiago's narrow streets and bustling squares and the joyful celebrations, today has been nothing short of magical. The journey continues, but Santiago has gifted us memories that will undoubtedly endure.

Day 21 - Padron to Milladioro

The anticipation is on the rise as we near Santiago, our steps energized by the excitement of almost reaching Santiago. Tonight, we are nestled just 8km’s away from the awe-inspiring Santiago de Compostela Cathedral. Stay tuned for more on that tomorrow! 🤗

We set off from Padron early today, aiming to cover most of our distance while the air was still cool and invigorating. To our delight, an overcast sky graced our entire walk, offering us refreshingly mild weather all day long.

What a remarkable day it has been, teeming with fellow pilgrims at every turn. I lost count of how many we encountered, each corner seemed to reveal another group on their own journey.

Today, we added a few more places to our growing list of pilgrim companions:

- Norway
- Ukraine
- Poland
- Wales
- United Kingdom
- New Orlean’s
- Texas
- Madrid
- South of Italy - Torchiarolo

After covering 21km’s, we arrived at our destination for the night, the private Albergue Milladioro. More than just a resting point, Milladioro has deep historical significance. The name "Milladioro" translates to "view point”referring to its historical role as a vantage point where pilgrims would first catch sight of the spires of the cathedral Santiago de Compostela.

Staying at Albergue Milladioro for €18, we are incredibly impressed. The facility is a 10 out of 10, offering exceptional amenities crafted specifically for pilgrims.

Here's to resting well tonight and the final steps of our grand adventure to Santiago de Compostela and then we continue to walk to Fisterra and END OUR CAMINO IN MUXIA!!

After trekking 396 kilometers so far, I am excited to cross the 400 kilometer milestone tomorrow! 🤗🤗

Day 20 - Vilanova de Arousa to Padrón via Boat

We boarded the boat heading to Pontsescures at 07:45, cloaked in layers against the freezing cold. But as if the chill wasn't enough, it started to rain. The boat trip was a flurry of rain ponchos and my glasses fogged up from the downpour, it was nearly impossible to see through the rain.

Upon disembarkation, we urgently sought out an open coffee bar to thaw our cold bodies before embarking on the short walk into Padrón. As the warmth seeped in, our spirits lifted, preparing us for the wonderful day ahead.

It has been a relaxed day, connecting with fellow pilgrims and exploring this charming town. Padrón, with its cobblestone streets and historical significance as the place where the remains of Saint James were said to have first landed in Spain, invites curiosity and reverence. The lush greenery along the banks of the Sar River adds a serene backdrop to the town’s vibrant local life.

Though the direct walk to Padrón was approximately 4 kilometers, my wandering feet led me to a total of 15 kilometers, each step unveiling new facets of this beautiful town. The church of Santiago de Padrón, with its storied history and impressive architecture, was a particularly fascinating stop.

Tonight, it will be early to bed as we plan to set off earlier than usual tomorrow.

Total walked today - 15 km’s
Total walked to date - 375 km’s
Total still to walk - 225 km’s

We are staying in a private albergue right next to the cathedral, Albergue D’Camino, for €22. This charming albergue is wonderful, Maria and I have our own private section, which is GREAT!
