A brief history of the association. Legal status of association is a non-profit organization in Belgium. The activities and the number of participants vary the possibilities of Managerial association. The goal is to train uneducated women the art of traditional dyeing techniques. Thus formed, the women out of the Fama Batik workshop with a job in hand, a means for income and some independent futures. For several years now the shop is run by an extended family (in the African sense of the term, that is to say, a lot of people). This is the family of Adama Gaye, a former student of the workshop, which is today, for our pride, head of the workshop. Since 2007, Fama subsidizes Assukaten Batik workshop near Ziguinchor, which trains of six women and through the payment of part of the revenue of the association. Proceeds from the sale of parts and shades made up by the students as part of their training are completely transferred. In January 2010, a period of two weeks was organized in Ziguinchor, Senegal with 14 participants including 4 foreigners. The aim of the course was trained trainees to batik techniques and a foreign participant to provide training for a Senegalese participant in order to create a new workshop in Senegal. That same year, seven students participated in a festival by offering their own work through the internship batik they have done, they have learned to create their own works and become independent. From 2010, the members of Fama Batik start using natural vegetable dye and in new productions. It is to make a gesture for environmentally several projects have been set up. Our goal for 2011 was achieved, ie
· Renew the old equipment with 2 new electric sewing machines and pedal to alleviate the frequent power cuts in Senegal
· Purchase table, chairs, large basin, gas stoves, 200L bottles to recycle rainwater, stores brushes
· Participation in the harvest of beeswax that is the basis of our work
· Donation of material assistance to former students who are self-employed.
· The workshop is available to all students and apprentices who want to make their own produce to sell in the local market. A batik course was organized in 2011 in Ziguinchor in Senegal with the same objectives as 2010. The course has hosted 16 people including 8 local students who received free training in Batik. Projects for 2012 were to create a sales channel and exhibition in hotels and open a store ready to wear
These projects have been achieved since the 2012 edition and the 2013 was a big failure for us because we did not have the benefit to realize our projects
The benefits can serve to enhance the work materials and assist 2 women to find jobs. Fama batik focuses on women, especially mothers without jobs Boucotte the district of South Ziguinchor. We also like to allow women to open a retail space for Batik Fama and contribute to the process, creating a sale. We also wish for 2014, organize an internship of Batik in Senegal which will be renewed every year in order to introduce more people to the art of batik and allow more Senegalese learn a trade.
