A Chinese court ruled that a company cannot fire a worker just because AI can do the job cheaper. The worker was earning 25,000 yuan a month. After AI took over much of his work, the company offered him a lower‑pay job. He refused, and they fired him. The court said this was not fair — using AI is a business choice, but it does not remove workers’ legal rights. Companies can still use AI, but they cannot simply say ‘AI is cheaper’ and dismiss employees without following labour laws. This raises a big question worldwide: when jobs disappear because of automation, who should carry the cost — the company or the worker?
