Biodiversity is declining as we impact the planet and all species with the burden of our expansion.

IUCN stands for International Union for Conservation of Nature.

It is the global authority on the status of the natural world and the measures needed to safeguard it. Its experts are organized into six commissions dedicated to species survival, environmental law, protected areas, social and economic policy, ecosystem management, and education and communication.

The IUCN Red List relies on assessors (trained individuals, usually species experts) to assess species based on the currently available data and information. This comes from a range of sources, including published scientific papers, books, reports, expert knowledge, indigenous knowledge and citizen science.

IUCN informs on the status of the existing wildlife in 9 Red List Categories:

Extinct
Extinct in the Wild
Critically Endangered (Threatened with extinction)
Endangered (Threatened with extinction)
Vulnerable
Near Threatened
Least Concern
Data Deficient
Not Evaluated
Vulnerable

Indonesia is the only place in the world where orangutans live in the wild. 🌳🦧🌳
We share almost 97% of our DNA with the orangutans. In the Malay language, orangutan means "people of the forest", orang, meaning "person", and hutan, meaning "forest". Orangutans are among the most intelligent primates. They are experts & engineers of the rainforest.

Tragically, a silent & dreadful war against ours sisters & brothers living in the wild is pushing them to extinction, as they are facing a critical danger of going extinct mostly because of the destruction of their native rainforests caused by mankind.
The Tapanuli Orangutan subspecies from Sumatra is at risk of going extinct within the next 10 years if no positive strong action is engaged to protect them & their coveted environment.

The surviving 5 of 8 kinds of orangutans, the Bornean (Pongo Pygmaeus, Pongo Morio & Pongo Wurmbii) & the Sumatran Orangutan (Pongo Abelii) & the Tapanuli orangutan (Pongo Tapanuliensis), have all experienced a critical decline in their populations. A century ago, there were probably more than 230,000 orangutans in total, but the Bornean orangutan is now estimated at about 104,700 and the Sumatran about 13,846. The Tapanuli orangutan (Pongo tapanuliensis) is a species of orangutan restricted to South Tapanuli on the island of Sumatra in Indonesia. It was only described as a distinct species in 2017. As of 2018, there are roughly 800 Tapanuli orangutans remaining, and they are currently on the critically endangered species list by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

When you see their eyes, you can feel immediately a sense of closeness and understanding. We must be reminded of the immediate efforts that need be done to ensure that orangutans and all others critically endangered species continue to inhabit the planet for generations to come. 🧡

Starting anything takes time and requires a lot of patience, faith, and labor before thriving. Nature teaches us powerful life lessons. 🎍Deep in the ground, bamboo seeds take up to 5 years laying roots out of sight, deep and wide underground, before rising from the soil and can reach up to ninety feet tall (≈ 27,4m) within just six short weeks.
Stay tuned with Nature Sacrée and share our mission. 🌱

Exploration: A walk of life 🧚🏽💚

Nature grows stronger when left to thrive away from human intervention. In the very dense & wild environment of the Gunung Leuser rainforest in Sumatra Indonesia, trees can expand individually without depriving the others from exponential growth. In the canopy, they form a large connected network where no single drop of water is wasted, creating special bonds with other species. 🦧💧

It’s a virtuous lively circle where the flore and the fauna flow together endlessly, creating new sources of life for their whole universe. 🍃🐜

As a species, we should reflect on the teachings of the rainforest to reconsider our own nature and as passagers of the planet’s journey. 🌿

Introducing the Nature Sacrée logo, inspired by the Dodo’s tragic fate. Bold. Minimalist.
A logo icon to inspire a real call to action. For the Dodo, it's centuries too late, but for the remaining wildlife there is still a chance if we act now. ✊🏽🦤

Some say the Dodo was too naive for this world.🦤
Its tragic & dramatically fast extinction embodies the countless species that are driven to the same crushing fate. Every year, the planet keeps losing unique species for the same reasons: greed & reckless human behavior. 🤯

And you, which extinct animal do you wish was still around? ☝🏽🌍
