Lando Norris accused Max Verstappen, his friend and now closest rival, of unfair driving that was “just a bit reckless” and “a little bit desperate”, after a no-holds-barred battle for victory at the Austrian Grand Prix ended in a collision that wrecked both their races.

Norris, who was challenging the world champion for the lead in the closing laps after the Red Bull driver had been delayed by a slow final pit stop, felt Verstappen had several times moved under braking when defending his position.

He has been a mainstay of the British team since his debut at the 2013 Worlds and as well as his titles, has had to show resilience after suffering a ruptured Achilles in early 2018 and having a change of coach post-Tokyo.

The Loughborough-based athlete is now working with former international Beth Miller (formerly Partridge) and the pair have worked on a new run-up for this season which they hope will lead to more power and momentum over the bar.

Defending champion Novak Djokovic says he does not know if he will be fit enough to play his French Open quarter-final after blaming the "slippery" Roland Garros clay for aggravating a knee injury.

Djokovic, 37, showed his supreme powers of recovery once again to come through a five-set marathon against Argentine 23rd seed Francisco Cerundolo in the fourth round on Monday.

The world number one was hampered by the injury before winning 6-1 5-7 3-6 7-5 6-3.

Outgoing Barcelona boss Xavi says his successor will "suffer" in the role.

The Spaniard, 44, was sacked before taking charge of their final game of the season - a 2-1 win over Sevilla.

Former Germany and Bayern Munich boss Hansi Flick is set to replace him.

Xavi, who was under contract until 2025, said he was going to leave the club in January but performed a U-turn, announcing he was staying on at Camp Nou in April.

David Moyes got the send-off he deserved at London Stadium on Saturday.

A lovely warm day, a clear blue sky, a thrilling victory and a final goal from a home-grown youngster. It could not have gone much better.

As he made his way around the pitch, trailing his players on their annual end of season lap of appreciation, Moyes waved at fans, having signed autographs beforehand.

The warm and genuine acknowledgement at a job well done came back from the stands. The majority of a 60,000-plus crowd remained long after the final whistle.

They did not need to be told to pay Moyes due respect. Their growing irritation at negative results and performances was set aside in justifiable recognition at the superb job Moyes has done over the past four and a half years.

West Ham now are a different club to the one Moyes returned to in December 2019. They have had three European campaigns and, famously, won their first trophy in 43 years.

But even last summer, Moyes knew some fans wanted him to move on. That number has grown significantly over the second half of this season, during which time they have won four of 20 domestic matches.

It was similar last term, when they won five out of 20 domestic games, culminating in a four-goal hammering at Brighton.

This is not to downplay the job Moyes has done. This season alone, West Ham have beaten Chelsea, Tottenham, Arsenal and Manchester United.

Two weeks ago, they drew with Liverpool. They are assured of a top-10 finish for the third time in four years.

But West Ham are a different club now. Their aspirations are greater.

"David Moyes has done a good job and when you see what has happened to Aston Villa, it shows hard hard winning a European trophy actually is," said Kent-based fan Philip Gambrill before the Luton game.

"But he doesn't use his substitutes and he hasn't played the young lads.

"Maybe we don't have the strength in depth other clubs have but the fans still don't understand why. I think most do accept it is time for it to end.”

Nottingham Forest have demanded the audio between officials from Sunday’s defeat at Everton be released publicly.

Meanwhile, the Football Association has asked Forest, manager Nuno Espirito Santo, defender Neco Williams and analyst Mark Clattenburg for their observations as a result of their post-match comments.

Forest were furious after three penalty claims were rejected in the 2-0 defeat at Goodison Park, which kept them just a point above the Premier League relegation zone.

It sparked an angry post on the club’s X account, external where they said they were “considering their options” over “extremely poor” refereeing decisions.

Yet, despite raising some concerns with referees’ body the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) last week, the club did not ask for Stuart Attwell to be taken off video assistant referee duties for their match, BBC Sport has been told.

The club said they had "warned" the PGMOL "the VAR is a Luton fan but they didn't change him".

A statement, released on Monday afternoon, read: “Nottingham Forest has today submitted a formal request to the PGMOL to release into the public domain the audio recordings between officials during yesterday’s match against Everton at Goodison Park.

“The club has requested this be shared for three key match incidents - Ashley Young’s challenge on Giovanni Reyna (24th minute), Ashley Young’s handball (44th minute) and Ashley Young’s challenge on Callum Hudson-Odoi (56th minute).

“We firmly advocate for the broader football community and supporters to have access to the audio and transcript for full transparency, ensuring the integrity of our sport is upheld.”

It follows Liverpool’s similar request when Luis Diaz’s goal was incorrectly disallowed in their 2-1 defeat at Tottenham in September.

The Premier League said in a statement that it was "extremely disappointed" by Forest's social media post.

It added: "It is never appropriate to improperly question the integrity of match officials, and the nature of these comments means the Premier League will also be investigating the matter in relation to the League’s rules."

Manager Nuno told BBC Sport that Forest "feel they are taking away things from us so it's difficult", while Williams said "top-six sides would get all three penalties".

Forest released another statement later on Monday on X, external, acknowledging that they “know match officials do not allow outside factors to influence their decision-making”.

However, the club also called for “greater transparency around PGMOL appointments to further protect the game’s reputation”.

The statement added: “This is not about individuals but rather how the integrity of the game is seen.

“Referees are required to declare their ‘allegiances’ to PGMOL to avoid any perceived conflict or harm to the game’s reputation for integrity.

“However, it is clear PGMOL must amend its rule on allegiances to account for contextual rivalries in the league table, not just local rivalries. This is currently not within the criteria but should be.”

Forest said that "any move which boosts confidence in the system should be properly considered” given "the widespread and ongoing concerns" of fans, managers and pundits around the league around VAR decisions.

Liverpool's hopes of giving Jurgen Klopp a dream send-off in the Europa League final in Dublin next month are hanging by a thread.

The Reds boss has announced he is leaving the club at the end of the season and his players were keen to extend the season to 22 May when the final of Europe's second-tier competition takes place.

A shock 3-0 home defeat by Atalanta in the quarter-final first leg means that looks an unlikely scenario as it stands.

Klopp, who has steered Liverpool to three Champions League finals - winning it in 2019 - looked bewildered at the final whistle and applauded fans as he disappeared down the tunnel.

But was this his final European game at Anfield after Liverpool suffered their first home defeat since losing 5-2 to Real Madrid in the Champions League in February 2023, ending their 33-game unbeaten run?

Xabi Alonso says he will remain in his role as Bayer Leverkusen manager next season as he believes the club is the "right place" to be as a young coach.

The Spaniard has been heavily linked with the manager's job at Liverpool since Jurgen Klopp said he will stand down at the end of the season.

"I am convinced it is the right decision, I am happy," said Alonso.

Leverkusen are on the brink of a first Bundesliga title and unbeaten in all competitions this season.

Alonso, the 42-year-old ex-Liverpool midfielder, was also seen as a candidate to take over at former club Bayern Munich, whose manager Thomas Tuchel will also leave at the end of the campaign.

Alonso said he informed Leverkusen's directors of his decision to stay at the club last week.

"It's been a season we have had a lot of speculation regarding my future," he added.

"Until now we have had so many games, been pretty busy and focused, and I wanted to reflect during the international break and take a decision.

"The players, they gave me so many reasons to keep believing in the team, for their commitment, for their desire, for their hunger to have a great season. My job is not over here."

Signed from Real Sociedad in 2004, Alonso went on to make 210 appearances for Liverpool and won the Champions League with the club in 2005.

He left in 2009 to join Real Madrid - another club he has recently been linked with - and moved to Bayern five years later before retiring as a player in 2017.

Asked about interest from two of his old clubs, Alonso said: "It wouldn't be correct of me to talk about other clubs when they are in this situation. For sure there are clubs I have a strong link, I played there. So I respect them.

"It's more that the conviction I am in the right place at Bayer Leverkusen and I want to keep growing with the club, growing with the players.

"We have speculated enough. I want to enjoy wherever I am and I am enjoying it at Leverkusen."

Alonso moved into coaching with Real Madrid's Under-14 side in 2018 and followed that with three years in charge of Real Sociedad's B team.

In October 2022, Leverkusen gave him his first managerial role in first-team football and, having taken over with the club second from bottom in the Bundesliga, Alonso led them to a sixth-placed finish.

In his first full term in charge this season, Leverkusen are 10 points clear of champions Bayern with eight games remaining.

They are also in the semi-finals of the German Cup and quarter-finals of the Europa League.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola said after Sunday's Manchester derby that midfielder Phil Foden was the "best player in the Premier League right now".

And Foden has a strong case for that accolade, having scored six goals and provided an assist in his past seven league games.

Using the past 10 rounds of Premier League matches, BBC Sport look at who might currently be its 'best' player.

Phil Foden (Manchester City)
Foden scored twice in a 3-1 win over Manchester United on Sunday as City stayed firmly in the hunt for the title.

The 23-year-old has scored 11 Premier League goals this season and assisted seven - putting him joint-eighth in the rankings for those categories.

Guardiola: "What can I say? He is the best player in the Premier League right now for the amount of things he does. Unbelievable."

BBC Radio 5 Live commentator John Murray: "If England were playing their first match at the Euros later today, I think you would expect to see Bukayo Saka on the right, probably Phil Foden on the left, Harry Kane through the middle and Jude Bellingham in the number 10 position."

Analysis: How Foden became Guardiola's 'go-to man'
Erling Haaland (Manchester City)
Haaland tops the Premier League goalscoring charts on 18 - two clear of everyone else. That is despite missing five matches so far this season.

Having featured in City's past seven games since returning from injury, Haaland has scored four league goals and set one up in that time, as well as hitting five goals in an FA Cup fifth-round victory at Luton Town.

Guardiola: "With top scorers or strikers who score a lot of goals, don't criticise because he will shut your mouth, that's for sure."

Former City midfielder Michael Brown: "He's got that power, he's got that dedication. That hunger to finish. We've seen him mix up his goals. It's difficult to just not let him do what he does."

Former Wales manager Chris Coleman is a leading candidate to succeed Stephen Kenny as Republic of Ireland boss.

The Republic of Ireland have been without a manager since Kenny's three-year tenure ended in November 2023.

Coleman, who won 32 caps for Wales as a centre-back, led his country to the Euro 2016 semi-finals during his time in charge between 2012 and 2017.

The former Fulham and Sunderland boss has been out of work since leaving Greek club Atromitos last October.
