Our biggest achievement has always been the way our work made you feel. Not in theory, but in the daily reality of getting dressed, of stepping outside with dignity, of recognizing yourself in the mirror and feeling at ease.
We enabled people to live more freely in their bodies, to feel beautiful. And yes, beautiful, because while some dismiss that as superficial, it is something that is so often denied to fat people.
Instead, we are offered other words. Powerful. Brave. Compliments that carry a quiet subtext: if I looked like you, it would be a tragedy, so you must be strong to exist like that.
But that was never enough. And it was never the point.
Beautiful without explanation, without apology.
That is what Loud Bodies has been. And for a little while longer, it still is.
