♻️ From theory to practical textile circulation

tExtended has reached an important milestone, strengthening the basis for how discarded textiles can be routed towards reuse, remanufacturing, and recycling.

Through its Real Scale Demonstrator, tExtended has tested materials and processing routes to refine its classification system and Textendifier tool – helping identify whether textiles are best suited to reuse, remanufacturing or different recycling pathways.

The work brings together factors including material condition, contamination, colour, construction, logistics, infrastructure and output requirements to support more informed routing decisions.

The result? A tested, adapted decision-support tool that can help retain more value in textiles and support the transition towards a more circular textile system.

✨Second Spotlight on the Nordic-Baltic Circularity Forum 2026 sessions!

In the afternoon of October 7, our second panel about tExtended continues sharing Practical Results and Material Solutions developed in the four years of collaborative work in our EU-funded project.

This time, our speakers will share the near-commercial outcomes developed during the project; they will especially focus on experimental collection and sorting methods for reuse, remanufacturing, technical trials of soft mechanical recycling for workwear, the integration of post-consumer recycled content into new home textiles, and social-innovation spin-offs creating souvenirs from textile leftovers.

The panel will be composed by:
- Miira Ojanen, Project Consultant at Lounais-Suomen Jätehuolto Oy
- Susanna Raiskio, Research Scientist at VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland
- Koen De Ruyck, General Manager at Purfi Manufacturing
- Paulo Lopes, Raw Material Purchasing and Product Manager at Têxteis J.F.Almeida, S.A.
- Zara Huybens, Innovations and Sustainability Project Leader at De Kringloopwinkel
- Dace Akule, Expert in Textile Circularity at Green Liberty
- Carolina Soares, Project Manager and Researcher at ERT Têxtil Portugal

What makes us choose one piece of clothing over another?

For 80% of participants in a recent tExtended workshop, avoiding ultra-fast fashion was a key factor.

But sustainability isn’t the only consideration. Quality, price, durability, comfort, fit and personal style all play a role in what we buy – highlighting the complexity of creating a truly circular textile system.

So, how can the industry make circular choices easier to understand and trust?

Apply by 31 August to showcase your circular solution at the exhibition or present it at the Speakers' Corner of the Nordic-Baltic Textile Circularity Forum!

For everyone returning from summer holidays: join our Forum in Riga this October, which will bring together policymakers, industry stakeholders, researchers, innovators and practitioners to explore some of the most pressing questions facing textile circularity today:

- How can we scale effective collection, sorting, reuse and recycling systems?
- How will upcoming policy and EPR requirements be implemented?
- Which technologies and circular business models can already be considered promising?
- How can stronger Nordic-Baltic cooperation help turn innovations into systemic change in the region and the wider EU?

Pioneering business insights and expert perspectives will be combined with discussions, networking, live demonstrations and an exhibition of market-ready materials and products.

Programme (subject to changes), speaker line-up, applications, travel information, and registration link are on our website.

As part of tExtended’s demonstrator activities, LSJH and Latimmier Oy have explored how end-of-life and post-industrial textiles can be transformed into premium design products through the innovative KAMU project.

By repurposing discarded bed linens, curtains, shirts and deadstock fabrics, the project successfully developed a limited collection of shirts, tote bags and textile posters, while gaining valuable insights into the opportunities and challenges of scaling circular fashion.

Another milestone achieved for tExtended!

Our latest milestone shows that reducing textile waste by up to 80% is possible - but only through systemic change across the entire textile value chain.

From smarter sorting and advanced recycling technologies to digital tools and collaborative circular ecosystems, tExtended is demonstrating how innovation can help transform textile waste into valuable resources. The message is clear: meaningful impact requires collaboration, data-driven decision-making, and a holistic approach to circularity.
