I reckon my wet felted and Eco-printed neck warmer will turn a few heads on the A*5 North Wales Expressway tomorrow!
Even if it's not for the reason I would wish for!

You can meet us both at the Popup Wool Show tomorrow!

If you can make it to the Popupwoolshow
tomorrow, please do visit my stall and introduce yourself!

I will have lots of welsh breed:- carded wool, roving, selection boxes, felting kits and belly button warmers for sale.
Including rare Brecknock Hill Roving
I will take the neck warmer and vases for demonstration purposes to see what can be achieved by following my youtube videos.

Hopefully I will have room in my car for a few felted rugs and maybe some other wet felted items available for sale.
If anybody is interested in my experiments with lanolin I am more than happy discuss my results.

One more day to prepare and I maybe would have had some lanolin to bring with me.
But there is just so much going on I'm my world currently, there just isn't enough hours in day or days in a week!

Other commitments have kept me away from my studuo for a while but I have been posting updates!
They are just not appearing on my timeline.
I posted yesterday but no sign of it today!
Fingers crossed this one doesn't get lost!

Update! The further refining looked so promising until I burnt it again!
It seems that the moment the last of the water evaporates, the remaining lanolin burns over a hot heat.
So clearly a much lower heart is needed close to the end of evaporating.
I have the last of the crude lanolin from Jacs fleece settled into layers as well as a similar amount of the crude lanolin gifted to me from Howarth as a control for comparison.

This is is my attempt to clean up the Lanolin I made yesterday using exactly the same process to mix and settle it.
But now its upside down?
I also made a post earlier that today that seems to have randomly disappeared.
I had extracted more lanolin from the black muck.
When I was evaporating it down it was looking really promising until the very end, when I burned it and it went from yellow to brown.
Still, it's a lesson learned and one that I can share in the YouTube video so others don't make the same mistake.
I thought it would be posted by now!
At least I now have a good idea of what I'm doing!
Next I'm going to test my process using the crude lanolin gifted to me by Howarth scouring.
2 reasons:
1. As a control
2. Because I think that using the olive soap to extract the crude lanolin from Jac's fleece is influencing my results and trying to decipher oily soap from waxy lanolin, when both can appear to be similar colour, is not helping!
I will be taking my time with both settling and evaporating so please bare with me!
I really want the youtube video to have clear and full proof instructions for the refining of crude/raw Lanolin.

Well I said hopefully something that resembles Lanolin!
I think I have achieved that but while is looks more refined than the crude lanolin I got from Howarth and certainly a who lot more than the tarry goo that this is derived from, its more caramel than yellow!
This is molten It will be interesting to see what it looks like when it cools.

I reckon I'm very close!
Only concern is that the huge pile on the filter paper is what has been removed!
Is that really all contaminents or is there still a ton of lanolin still in that pile?
Pen is for scale.
I will reduce this glassful down after cleaning up yet again! Hopefully we will end up with something resembling lanolin!
Wish me luck!

From the previous post:
1st pic is the result of deducing down the sediment.
2. Was from deducing down the umbrella coloured liquid.
3. The black liquid that I initially left behind
4. The froth from the top thar I believe is olive oil soap.
The salty one I poured into a pop to resettle to make it easier to remove the black solution!

The one on the left is the one that formed a pale layer, using isopropyl Alcohol, early on in my journey.
I Added water to raise the level and wash away the Alcohol away but it instantly turned into a emulsion abd developed a greenish coloured froth on top that I realised was the olive oil soap.
I had used it to extract the lanolin from the fleece.
I removed the soap layer from the top and then extracted all but the black liquid layer from the bottom as carefully as I could.
The remainder settled to this and I had added more Alcohol.
I will now try to seperate the Amber liquid layer and the sediment and evaporate them down to see what I get. Will update you later!
